I finally did it. I made my first purchase of Colourpop Ultra Matte Lipsticks. I have heard so many mixed reviews and I couldn’t decide one way or the other on if it was worth it to try them out so I finally decided that I needed to just take the plunge and try them so I could form my own opinion. I picked up a pretty good range of shades: Midi, Trap, Beeper, Stringraye, Bumble, Tulle, and Bad Habit!
First of all, I really like the packaging. Lightweight, holographic writing, silver caps. I love that I can see the actual color of the product through the packaging. It is really helpful when you own so many lippies and you are fishing them out of your purse with one hand.
They are very affordable at $6 a pop which is way less than the leading liquid lipsticks on the market currently. Even the ones in the drugstore have been close to double that amount. But how do they stack up against the leading liquid lipsticks?
They have a pretty decent doe foot applicator and they are easy to apply. None of the ones that I own apply patchy. But they are all pretty drying. Like. Really drying honestly. I do love the colors I have but I am very careful to apply a lip mask or highly moisturising lip balm before and after application. If your lips have a lot of ridges or an issue with drying out a little too severely I woud avoid these altogether, but if you are willing to deal with it then I think they are pretty awesome as far as longevity and color range.
I would also like to mention that these lippies tend to go way darker once applied to the lips. Bumble in the tube looks like it is going to be a pretty terracotta-orange-brown-pink shade but on my lips it turns super dark and super brown. It is a color that I would like to love, I just don’t. Everyone that I have seen wear the different shades all have a different outcome with how the end colour looks.
Here are the swatches of the ones I have below. My favorites out of the bunch are Midi, Trap, Tulle and Bad Habit.
My overall opinion is that these are worth the $6 they cost, but buyer beware because the colors will dry out your lips and they will develop on the lips and change colors. You can only find these at colourpop.com!
