Liquid lipsticks are a huge trend right now and who keeps up with the trends better than MAC Cosmetics? MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks are about to be released in stores on January 7th. RUN to the counters… Don’t walk, RUN.
I would first love to say that the packaging is really something special. The tube looks like a traditional lipgloss type of tube but because these are liquid LIPSTICKS the top/applicator is the shape of a MAC lipstick cap. OMG. Hybrid packaging. I LOVE IT. Love love love.
So… Moving on to the shape of the doe foot applicator. It is more of an oval shape that comes to a finer point than their glosses. I am fairly certain that they chose the shape of the applicator because of the formula. The MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipsticks are a nice creamy formula that dry down into a super pigmented/opaque matte lipstick, and once this formula touches down it is staying there. The shape of the applicator helps you get a precise application so that you can do your best to keep a straight line going.
The formula is pretty spectacular too. Most matte liquid lipsticks are known for being super drying and unfriendly to the lips. This one does set down to be a non-transferrable matte BUT I didn’t find it as drying as most other liquid lippies I have tried recently. My lips felt comfortable the whole time I wore it and I left it on for a couple hours just to see what was happening with dryness.
Don’t make fun of my terrible application job. I actually wasn’t wearing makeup when I put this on and didn’t leave the house. I sat at home and tested this baby for you! LOL I really just put this on pretty slap-dash style and I am actually pretty proud of how neat it looks considering the amount of care I put into it, which is a testament to the applicator I think.
When this is available you can find it at Nordstrom and MAC as well as any other store that carries the brand.
