If there is one question I have been asked OVER AND OVER throughout my life it is “How do you keep your hair so shiny and healthy?” I never quite knew how to answer the question because, to me, it was just my regular routine. Small, easy steps that I do every day without thinking about it. Today I am going to share 5 tips for shiny, healthy hair.
{one} Hydrate.
Water is a magical thing. When we are staying hydrated our skin, nails, and hair grow shinier and healthier. Keeping the hair hydrated internally is known to help it grow out stronger, shinier and healthier than when you are dehydrated.
{two} Condition.
Deep conditioners, leave-in conditioners/treatments, and hair masks are so essential when trying to achieve a shinier, healthier head of hair. This is a way to hydrate the hair externally.
{three} Cold shots.
I love taking a really hot shower. No seriously, my husband doesn’t understand how my flesh doesn’t melt off. Most of the time I keep my hair out of the stream of water while it is hot. When I am getting to the end of my shower routine I always turn the heat off and rinse my hair with cold water. This helps lock down the hair cuticles, and in turn make the surface smoother. Smoother surfaces will reflect more light and offer a beautiful shine. If you use a hairdryer you may want to use the cool shot to finish up your blow out for the same reasons.
{four} Heat Protection.
I just mentioned using a hair dryer, but I want to also advise to always apply a heat protectant product to your hair before your heat styling or blow drying routine. It protects your hair from the damage caused my heat and actually helps protect your hair from damages caused by the sun.
{five} Build Up Removal.
All of the product we use to protect our hair or achieve a particular style can sometimes stick to the hair shaft and create build up. I personally get lots of build up and there are a few different ways to get rid of it my favorite being the right brush. The Goody Clean Radiance brush has Copper bristles that massage the scalp and work through the hair to reduce buildup and restore your hair’s natural moisture balance.
Copper bristles reduce natural buildup that is produced over time. Because the bristles are made from copper you shouldn’t use it during your blow dry routine, but that being said I don’t use a brush when working with wet hair anyway. I always brush through my hair when it is completely dry and usually a few times a day.
The cushion of the brush actually makes it really comfortable to work it through the hair. Sometimes when bristles have a flat, hard surface the brush feels to stiff and very uncomfortable. The flexibility of the Clean Radiance brush from Goody makes it that much nicer to use.
This isn’t necessarily a very important fact about the brush, but can I mention that the copper bristles give it a rose gold look that I am obsessed with right now? LOVE! I actually included this in my December 2015 Favorites video on YouTube.
Go check out my favorite things and also get yourself a Goody Clean Radiance brush ASAP! I have seen them a few places and I know for sure you can pick yourself one up at Target and, of course, Goody.com.
