Winged eyeliner gives me life and I have found a new tool that I absolutely LOVE to help me with it. Honestly, the product itself isn’t new, just new to me. The Make Up For Ever Graphic Liner pen is pretty fantastic and I have a huge crush on it. Can you have a crush on an inanimate object? Sure. Let’s just say for this post that you can. ha If you didn’t already think I am nuts, then I am sure you do now after seeing my inner dialogue written out in words.
In case you aren’t familiar with the Make Up For Ever Graphic Liner pen it is an ultra-fine carbon-black eyeliner pen and it is love.
This high-precision pen lets you create lines and define eyes with seamless control. This long-lasting, jet black eyeliner features a versatile foam tip pen that glides on with exact precision. Whether you’re drawing on a super-slim line or bringing dramatic intensity to eyes, this pen defines like a pro.
I love that the line glides smoothly across the skin which means that it wont skip and leave patchy messes in it’s wake. I LOVE that you can get a thin or thick line depending on how you hold it and the amount of pressure you apply. I also love that it is JET BLACK. Seriously, folks. I have enjoyed other pen liners in the past but I don’t think any of them compare to the dark opacity and ease of use as this one.
This liner has inspired me to give you all what you have been asking for for ages. A winged eyeliner tutorial. There is more than one way to go at this but when I work as a makeup artist this is the way I teach my clients and they LOVE IT. I have had some of my past clients write me to tell me how much this way has helped them because it is like “Winged Liner For Dummies”! I like that they describe it that way because I feel like this way makes it super simple, too.
{one} Start out with a finished eye look. In this case I just did an easy wash of MAC Deckchair pigment but any look you enjoy works perfectly.
{two} Draw the tail first. It may seem unnatural to draw the tail first but I feel like this is a crucial step. Getting this angle just write without any distractions is the key. Also, if you mess it up this part is easy to clean off without other sections of the eyeliner already in place.
{three} Bring the line in. Start at the tip of the tail you just made and pull your liquid liner in towards your tear duct. I like to think of it as a triangle and sort of angle my line down towards my lash line. I don’t bring this all the way in because it is pretty thick at this point and I like the inner corner of my eyeliner to be thinner.
{four} Line the rest of the lash line. Wherever your last line stops, go ahead and line the rest of the lash line. I like to take my time with this because I don’t want it to be to thick so I go pretty slow and am very careful.
{five} Fill in the triangle. Filling in the portions that are left blank are easy once you have the whole eye done. I love to turn my liner one it’s side where I get a lot of product touching my eye directly and just dab.
{six} Perfect the tip. After I get everything filled in I like to take the tip of my liquid liner and LIGHTLY draw the perfect tip/point at the end of my tail. It extends the wing just slightly but it is the key to making your liner look flawless.
That is it! Much more simple than you thought, huh? I hope so! Are there any tips and tricks that you have for the perfect liner? I would love to hear them! I am always ready to up my game!
