Skincare. Skincare is SO important to me. I feel like if we don’t start with a great foundation, i.e. good skin, then no amount of makeup that we put on is going to look the way we want. The fact that I am 32 and still battle acne but also welcoming more and more fine lines and wrinkles on a daily basis drives me insane. I recently had a consultation with a specialist at Paula’s Choice and told her all of my woes and she designed a fantastic regimen for me to follow and it is centered around the Skin Balancing line. So this is my Paula’s Choice Skincare Routine, a step by step guided tour.
As I am getting older, my oily skin is starting to turn a bit patchy. While some areas are super soakers the rest are dried up wells. It is truly irritating battling that everyday. I would say the biggest issues I face is enlarged pores and acne. The Skin Balancing line reads “You can’t outgrow oily skin but you can outsmart it. Unclog pores, banish blackheads, reduce redness, and reveal younger-looking skin.” Yes, please!
So the first part of my routine is the Skin Balancing Oil-Reducing Cleanser. It is a cream cleanser that lathers up really nicely and it does a great job at removing makeup, excess oil and then rinsing clean off the skin. I LOVE that my skin feels supple and soft instead of tight and sensitive. One of my favorite parts of my routine is the Skin Balancing Pore-Reducing Toner. It minimizes pores and lightly boosts moisture.
I follow up the toner with the powerhouse of the bunch, the Skin Perfecting 2% BHA Liquid. (Save an extra 20% off that AND get free shipping!) It is gentle enough for everyday use but is ABSOLUTELY the cornerstone of my entire routine. It is a salicylic acid leave-on exfoliant that removes old skin cells both on the skin’s surface and inside the pore. The claims on the product state “radiant, even-toned skin” and YES! That is exactly what I see in my own skin now. I could kiss this little bottle of amazing.
Before I put on my moisturizer I apply the Skin Balancing Super Antoxidant Concentrate Serum with Retinol. If the BHA Liquid is the superhero of my routine, I would consider this serum the side kick. It does it all: anti-aging, blackheads, enlarged pores, wrinkles, breakouts. It targets all of my problem areas.
I round out my morning and evening routine with a moisturizer. During the day I use the Skin Balancing Ultra-Sheer Daily Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 30. It is a weightless, mattifying moisturizer that has SPF coverage which I desperately need. For evenings I use the Skin Balancing Invisible Finish Moisture Gel. It contains antioxidants and niacinamide, in a shine-free gel that generates healthy, younger skin cells. Out of the two moisturizers I prefer the gel, and I do sometimes use it during the day when I am applying a foundation over it that contains SPF.
Every few days I incorporate the Skin Balancing Oil-Absorbing Mask. I LOVE masks and this one absorbs excess oil and helps pull out blackheads and that is A-OK by me. Because once the blackheads are gone this also helps to reduce the enlarged pores.
My Paula’s Choice Skincare Routine really pulled my skin out of a rut. I was getting fed up with the random breakouts I was experiencing and the oily t-zone was more than frustrating. I have been using these products for about a month, but I saw results after just a few days. The spots where I was extremely oily seemed to calm down and the areas that were dry had regulated. Skin balancing? I’ll buy it!
Even though The Nude Mattes Eyeshadow Palette isn’t technically part of my skincare routine I felt like I needed to mention it. I did include it in My Favorite Eyeshadow Palettes last month, but I wanted to tell you about it again while I was mentioning the brand.
This palette contains 12 eyeshadows, 11 of which are matte. There is a satin shade that is on the lighter side that I have been using to highlight the inner corner of my eye, so I feel like it really rounds out the palette nicely. Definitely check it out when you get the chance.
