Being someone that has had long hair most of my life, getting a haircut can sometimes give me a little anxiety. That is pretty common for a lot of people because I am willing to bet that everyone has had a bad haircut from their childhood. A bad haircut can be traumatizing, but being prepared can save you so much heartache. I wanted to share with you 5 tips to get the best haircut.
{one} Before going to get your haircut think about what you will be doing within a semi-long time frame. Are you going to want to put your hair in a ponytail? How much time can you invest in your styling routine? The answers to these simple questions can rule out a ton of styles that ultimately wont work for you.
{two} Look up lots of inspiration photos on Pinterest. I personally have two boards that I like to go to: Hair Do and Short Hair, Don’t Care. Saving some hairstyles you like yourself and pulling them up on your phone for your stylist to see can be extremely helpful in sharing your vision.
{three} TALK! Explain what you are wanting. When you are telling your stylist the haircut you are looking for you need to give as much detail as possible about the actual haircut, the way your hair behaves, the amount of time you are willing to put into styling. Simply stating where you want your hair to fall can make or break your haircut!
{four} Trust. Your stylist is the expert so IF they say that the style you are looking for isn’t going to do what you think it will then listen to them. Lots of times they can give you examples of small variances that you will be happy with in the long run. They are the experts and taking their advice is the smart thing to do.
{five} If you aren’t loving the way your haircut is looking be honest and tell them. If you don’t tell them they don’t know. If you tell them while the haircut is taking place then they can switch gears and take it in a different direction.
I recently get my do updated at Hair Cuttery, like I always do, and I did all of those things and wound up with a haircut I truly love. The ladies at my local salon are so sweet and Joy was my stylist at my most recent visit and she really listened to what I was saying and even though I was explaining it wrong she pulled my vision right out of my head.
