Weddings are such an emotional time in anyone’s life. The bride, groom, wedding party, parents of the bride and even guests are usually brought to tears at some point during the ceremony. I personally can’t even watch a wedding on TV or in a movie without sobbing. It is such a beautiful act, binding your life with another.
My wedding was like my own personal emotional roller coaster, with twists and turns and punches to the gut full of laughter and nerves. Here is a little backstory…
My then fiancé and I had known each other for about a year and a half before we got engaged. We set our wedding date for exactly a year from the date we got engaged. Because he is military, we didn’t live near our families (his lived in Georgia, mine lived in Mississippi and we were stationed in Virginia) we decided to hire a Justice of the Peace to marry us on the beach. We invited our close friends and family members that could travel to attend and our local friends. We had no intention of making it a big deal by any means. In fact, our attire was white button-downs, jeans and flip-flops.
My husband knows how crazy I can get while being excited and nervous so he left me in charge of remembering to bring along ONLY ONE THING, and that was the marriage certificate. We were told that the most important thing was the certificate; that we could forget the rings and everything else, but if we forgot the certificate the whole thing was a no-go. Well, guess what? When the JOP arrived and asked me for the certificate THAT is when I realized I left it at our apartment, which was located about 20 minutes away. He wasn’t the friendliest guy and was pretty grumpy but agreed to wait it out. My friend agreed to drive to my apartment, grab the certificate and meet us back at the beach. Thankfully he arrived just as the JOP decided he wanted to leave.
Looking back, I think that is a pretty funny story but it gets better. The wind was howling so loudly that I heard nearly NOTHING he said during the ceremony and my husband actually had to nudge me in order to get me to say, “I do.” because I never heard the JOP ask. So embarrassing.
Thankfully our wedding bloopers don’t hold a candle to The Wedding Ringer! Every time I see the previews I laugh hysterically and I can’t help but get some of the songs stuck in my head! The entire reception scene is sure to make my sides hurt from laughing too hard. In case you haven’t seen the trailers for it, let me break it down for you!
Doug Harris (Josh Gad) is a loveable, socially awkward groom-to-be with one problem: he has no best man. Doug wants everything to be perfect for his bride (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting), and with less than two weeks to go until the wedding, Doug is referred to Jimmy Callahan (Kevin Hart), owner and CEO of Best Man, Inc., a company that provides professional best men for hire. He actually needs seven groomsmen, and in order to pull off the wedding day charade they go as far as taking hilarious pictures to document their totally made-up history. The Wedding Ringer releases January 16th, and I am absolutely going to be there and you should, too!
I also want to mention The Wedding Ringer photobomb feature on their website. I have been taking my only existing wedding photo (don’t ask why we only have this one, it is another long story) and playing around with the placement of the characters in the movie. They are pretty amazing!
Tell me a funny wedding story of your own in the comments below! Did you attend a wedding where everything went wrong? Did your wedding have crazy things happen?
