Every year I try my hand at some sort of DIY gift for a friend or family member. Year after year I ask what to get them for Christmas so many of my friends and family tell me “I don’t need anything.” or “I can’t think of anything.” I love that they have all they need and want but that doesn’t really help me come up with a gift for them. This year I am going to give them the gift of beautiful skin by creating a gift basket full of things like honey for them to make a recipe for a DIY Oatmeal & Honey Face Scrub.
Do it yourself face masks and scrubs aren’t usually hard to put together but for some reason it seems like quite a daunting task to most people. My goal with this gift basket is to spread the knowledge that you can use simple ingredients and get big results.
The main ingredients are steel cut oats, Don Victor Honey, and Don Victor Olive Oil. I filled a short, wide mason jar with the oats to make it pretty and more “gift-able” and the Don Victor goodies already come in pretty jars so no need to dress them up. The Don Victor Honey is especially pleasing to the eye because of the gorgeous honeycomb inside the jar.
These ingredients have tremendous healing qualities. Oatmeal is full of anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds, it is also known to have skin-soothing properties. Honey provides natural antibacterial and healing properties to soothe and clarify the skin. Olive Oil has anti-inflammatory properties, it’s packed with antioxidants, and it has antimicrobial benefits!
I have a pretty big sweet tooth, so for good measure throw in something edible that you wont be using in the face mask. The Don Victor Whipped Honey line seemed like a perfect addition. Three are three flavors: Cocoa, Caramel and Cinnamon!
Oatmeal & Honey Face Scrub
First you need to add 2 parts oatmeal. For a single use I am using 2 teaspoons.
One part olive oil, so 1 teaspoon. I like this jar because it has a pouring spout so it makes it super convenient.
And one part honey, one teaspoon. I drizzle the honey into my bowl using the honeycomb. No need to dirty up a spoon for that! Now you want to mix all of these together until combined and then scrub your face in circular motions.
I am also including a free printable for you to include in a basket, should you want to make this and give it yourself.
To get all the things I used in this gift basket I went to Walmart. All of the Don Victor products will be found on the Hispanic aisle. Some of the products, liked the whipped honey line, are new and may not be available in your local store just yet. Go ahead and follow Don Victor on Facebook and I am sure they will keep you up to date with all their new releases.
I hope that you create this basket for yourself or at least it got you thinking of “outside of the box” gifts for the holiday season! This selection of goodies is perfect for the beauty lover in your life, but the exact same basket could be given to the chef in the family as well. Honey is so versatile! Tell me in the comments below: What is your favorite way to enjoy honey? On a biscuit, in your tea, or possibly even in a different DIY face mask?
