I don’t know about you, but I look forward to the Holidays every year. I love making cookies, candies and yummy things. I am a kid at heart in that way, and it is no surprise that my children love it too. Instead of making a gingerbread house this year I thought it would be fun to create a Graham Cracker House, not to mention that it is easier! After I was done making the house I had a lot of graham cracker bits and peanut butter left over so I decided to make Graham Cracker Peanut Butter Balls to go with it! So let me show you how I made the house and share the recipe for the candies with you…
The Graham Cracker House seems like a slightly daunting task at first, but once you get started you are going to be like, “OH! This is super easy!”
{one} So for starters I took two full sized graham crackers and then took a steak knife and cut the ends to make a tall angle. If you are making my candy recipe then just place the extra crumbled pieces in a bowl for later.
{two} Break one full graham cracker piece in half on the perforated part in the middle.
{three} I want my house to have an overhang so I took two more graham crackers and cut them a few centimeters past the perforated line in the middle.
{five} Take your peanut butter and apply it to all the edges of your pieces.
{six} Start by taking your two tall ends and joining them together by attaching the half pieces.
{seven} Take the longer pieces and create the roof!
{eight} To ensure that this house stays put, add more peanut butter to the outer edges where they join together.
That is it for the house itself. Now you can decorate it with whatever you want. I only added some cream cheese frosting for the door and a little Godiva pearl for the handle. I then shook some powdered sugar over it to make it look like it snowed! Fun!
Now for the Graham Cracker Peanut Butter Balls recipe.
It is super simple as well!
- 1.5 cups of peanut butter
- 6 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup of butter
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 package of chocolate chips
- 1-2 graham crackers
- Mix together the peanut butter, powdered sugar, butter and vanilla extract until combined. This will look like a dry dough, but that is exactly what you want.
- Roll the dough into balls.
- Melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler then, using a toothpick, dip the balls halfway into the chocolate.
- Break up the graham crackers and stuff them into the holes the toothpicks made.
It is unbelievable how easy these are to make. Not to mention delicious. I guarantee you that if you take these to a Holiday party or even give them as a gift you will be praised.
After I was done making the Graham Cracker Peanut Butter Balls I decided that my Graham Cracker House needed some shrubbery! The balls made a perfect edition!
Behind the scenes shot, you can see my Graham Cracker Peanut Butter Balls setting up on wax paper off to the side. In my imaginary graham cracker world, it is a forest of shrubbery! Work with me here…
I found everything I needed to make this recipe at Walmart. The Honey Maid crackers are on the cookie aisle and the Skippy Peanut Butter is in the Peanut Butter section!
