I love techie toys as much as my son and I am so excited to show you something we have been playing with all month long! The Ozobot is a small robot that has been nicknamed “The Game Piece With A Brain”! I actually had took Robotics in high school so when I got these in my hands I had a few moments of SUPER EXCITED GEEKDOM! I used to build much more simple versions of these little robots, and by more simple I mean that I was able to program them to move forward… nothing else! HAHA So I REALLY appreciate all the technology that is packed in this small body.
A little background information on the Ozobot:
Featuring a color optical sensing module and two independent micro-motors, Ozobot is a fast and precise miniature smart robot that instantly reacts to lines, patterns and color sequences on both digital and physical surfaces.
Ozobot offers kids and techies a creative way to learn and play with robotics in a variety of social and interactive fun game settings. This tiny customizable robot comes to life when you create mazes, tracks and playgrounds on paper or digital screens. YES, DIGITAL SCREENS TOO! Ozobot also comes with free downloadable apps and becomes your physical avatar for one of a kind augmented reality gaming.
Ozobot introduces you to code language and deductive reasoning while effortlessly playing in multi-dimensional environments. Expand your imagination and gain skills for life through a multitude of creative, strategic and competitive games. If only I had something like this before my robotics class—it would have been making learning simple and basic code slightly easier to grasp!
I want to mention that these are sold in single and dual packs; the one I have for you is a dual pack. This dual pack comes with so much stuff though! There are two robots, four skins/covers to change the look, and two holders that store them away for safe keeping, and two USB chargers. Also included in the box are some pre-made tracks and stockers and information on how to download the app. Definitely check out the app, because it provides you with an easy way to create your own tracks.
When these Ozobots roll over the track and the color changes, the Ozobot mimics the color with the light inside. These colors mean different things, slow fast, maintain… Also, there are little patterns that this machine recognizes like turning around. Kind of amazing.
You don’t have to have the app to make your own tracks though. Grab markers in the shades blue, red, green and black and get to town making a nice track of your own. I am planning on purchasing a few pieces of poster board and letting my son design a monster track. It should be really fun!
I actually created an Instagram video but I can’t embed it in the post because lately Instagram embeds have been eating my post if anything is placed beneath it. I hope that you go and explore robotics with Ozobot! You can find them at ozobot.com, brookstone.com,momastore.org, amazon.com and The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) Design Store.
