I am not sure how many people know this, but the sense of smell and memory are so intertwined that they are almost inseparable. I am a big fan of fragrance, most of which stir some sort of memory. I have a decent size collection of perfumes and they all pretty much reside on my night stand. I have a bunch of small rollerballs that live in my vanity and various different purses. I like fruity, musky, and even floral scents, so there is no real rhyme or reason to what draws me into a scent but when I like them, I REALLY LIKE THEM! I also don’t put certain notes in certain seasonal categories like most do. If I am feeling floral I will wear floral, if I am feeling sexy/mysterious I am going to go with a deeper note. I also like to combine 2 or more scents on a daily basis to make something I think is truly unique.
From glancing at these photos you may notice that I have several different fragrances from the same brand. I find that I really enjoy certain brands over others and will be more willing to purchase from them time and time again.
For instance, you see several Jo Malone fragrances. Jo Malone really does it for me. I love every single fragrance I have ever had the pleasure of sniffing from the brand. They truly have a craft made quality to them and the fragrances are unmistakable.
Orange Blossom (found here)smells like honeysuckles to me. I grew up on a dirt road with no neighbors for miles. The one good thing about this is that there was so much wildlife growing around me. My house was surrounded on all sides by woods basically and there were honeysuckle bushes that sort of blanketed the walls of the woods. When they were in bloom the scent is SO STRONG yet amazing. This cologne is exactly that scent. So maybe I just love the memory of those bushes and that is why I love the brand so much, but is that such a bad thing?
L’Occitane is another brand that I appreciate time and time again. One of my most recent favorites is the Roses et Reines (found here). It has an elegant bottle and a beautiful fragrance. I love to spray this on early in the morning. Something about it just wakes me right up.
L’Occitane Neroli and Orchidee (found here) is another AMAZING scent that is sure to please the masses. I like to wear it on date night because I feel like it has a flirty-sexy vibe.
A few more perfumes that stir up memories for me are MAC Turquatic, Tommy Hilfiger Tommy Girl, Harajuku Lovers Lil Angel, and Viva La Juicy.
MAC Turquatic (found here) for me makes me all nostalgic for when I first started to REALLYYYYY get into makeup. Of course, in true MAC Addict form, my love affair for the brand all started with visiting my local boutique. And when you walk into a MAC store there is a certain scent to the air. I swear to you, it is MAC Turquatic. MY HEART WAS BROKEN when they got rid of the fragrance but I was so happy when they brought it back out with pretty packaging.
Tommy Girl (found here) is a fragrance that TOTALLY reminds me of middle school to early high school. I think I have about 10 bottles of this stuff throughout those years. My then boyfriend would give me a bottle as a gift for every occasion.
Harajuku Lovers Lil Angel (found here) reminds me of my early 20s. I would spritz this on left and right. This may not even be correct, but I think it smells like pineapples and I am in love.
Juicy Couture Viva La Juicy (found here) reminds me of Christmas a few years ago. It was a popular scent that year and I can remember everyone wearing it all season long. I usually wear it when I go into shopping mode.
My reasoning for all of this is probably just the weirdest, but hey… that is me. I hope you enjoyed reading about my favorite fragrances. Now go read what fragrances are my fellow Makeup Warriors favorites, as well.
