In most fairy tales the princesses or heroines get all of the glory. Sometimes it is fun to pay more attention to the lovable weirdos of the world. The Cheshire Cat is a popular character in Alice in Wonderland. The cat’s personality is what gives this creepy kitty all of its popularity. Mischevious, adventurous, sarcastic, intelligent, playful, and always grinning… Kinda reminds me of ME! I thought it was a fitting character to try and recreate.
This look was fun to put together. I took inspiration from the 1951 animated Disney film for the coloring and the mouth was totally inspired by the 2010 live-action film directed by Tim Burton. As you can imagine, the Tim Burton version of the character is super creepy.
I created this look while my daughter was taking her nap and I got a little sloppy with the white part of the teeth, but overall I am happy with it.
For my brows and eyeshadow I used the Anastasia Beverly Hills Hypercolor Brow and Hair Powder (which apparently they don’t make anymore) and the Too Faced Cat Eye palette.
For the mouth I used Vincent Longo Creme Gel Liner in Blu Raven and NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk. I also used my MAC 263 brush.
In case you are wondering, the rest of the makeup I used was Supergoop CC Cream as a primer and then the Mary Kay CC Cream over that. I powdered down my t-zone and mouth area with NARS All Day Luminous Powder Foundation.
Because I wanted my blush to be pink like my eye makeup I used Smashbox Blush Rush in Radiance. It is a bright, fresh pop of color without being too overwhelming.
And there you have it my friends. I just went for it. It was a little adventurous, and I had absolutely never tried it before but I like the way it came out. My son actually wants me to do this again on Halloween.
I also have to share this story with you… I actually was doing this makeup while my daughter was asleep. I wanted to do the makeup and wash my face before she woke up so I didn’t scare her. Can you imagine being 17 months old, going down for a nap, waking up and your mom has been replaced by some psycho? Anyway… when I had just finished taking these pictures I got a delivery notification from UPS saying that the packages were left on my door. I open my front door and see that nothing was left. This is the 2nd day in a row that I got a notification without having my stuff delivered. I was livid so I call UPS to tell them and they said they would have someone call me back within the hour. They ALSO told me that the day before and it never happened so I decided to get in my car and go look for it.
Raegan woke up during my phone call, so I got her changed and ready for a car trip. We get in the car and start driving my neighborhood and ODDLY ENOUGH, UPS actually calls. While I am talking to this lady I see a house that had a large package sitting outside. I had a feeling it was mine. I park the car at the curb, go up to the door and look at the package and sure enough, my name was on it. I didn’t want to just take them (even though they were mine) so I rang the bell and the couple that lived there answered. Their faces were PRICELESS.
You guys… I never washed my face. I still looked like the Cheshire Cat walking up to these strangers house. My mind was so focused on being annoyed at UPS and the misdeliveries that I didn’t think to wash my face. You know what is even funnier? Raegan didn’t even blink. She didn’t think anything was strange about this look on me at all. The good thing is, the couple was very nice, gave me my packages and even told me they had the package that was wrongly delivered to them the day before. Thank goodness!
