It is after Labor Day now, so that basically means Fall is here. For the last few years it seems that Pumpkin has taken center stage for “favorite Fall flavor” but what happened to apples? When I was growing up the sight of an apple just epitomized the season. Candy apples, apples for the teacher, apples falling from fall trees (I lived across the street from an apple orchard growing up), but the buzz has seemed to dissipate over the years. Well, want to celebrate Fall the way I remember it from my childhood, which means Quick and Easy Apple Turnovers with Chocolate Drizzle.
They look good, right? Well, I am using two ingredients that may seem a little different to you. Mott’s Applesauce and some specialty M&Ms! I bought several bags the other day: Candy Apple, Pumpkin Spice, and some Peanut Butter ones that are all in Fall shades. I am going to show you, step-by-step, how to create these delicious, EASY Apple Turnovers.
What you will need:
Wax paper.
Puff Pastry.
Rolling pin / flat surface cup or glass.
Pizza cutter.
2-3 cups of Mott’s Applesauce (flavor of your choice).
A bag of M&Ms.
Mott’s Apple Juice.
A fork.
A plastic baggie.
A pair of scissors.
Directions:
{one} Roll out the puff pastry on a surface that has flour on it to help it not stick. If you have a rolling pin, that is great! I do not have one, so I used a glass that has a flat surface. With said device, flatten out the pastry so that it is fairly thin, yet thick enough to encase the applesauce.
{two} Use your pizza cutter to create squares.
{three} Place 2 tablespoons of applesauce in the center of the pastry.
{four} Fold the pastry over.
{five} Use the tines of your fork to pinch the edges together. It will seal the applesauce in and create a pretty, bakery-like effect.
{six} Put them in the oven on a cookie sheet with wax paper layered overtop!
Let them cool on a rack, or at least away from the stove. I am so happy with how pretty these come out. So fluffy, and gorgeous.
So, for the chocolate drizzle… I placed a handful of M&Ms in a plastic baggie and then smashed them with a flat clever, just to break the candy shell. I add about a teaspoon of apple juice to the M&Ms and then put that baggie down into a ramekin and placed them in the microwave for a minute. They probably could have gone a little longer, but I didn’t want to risk burning the chocolate. Once you reach your desired consistency, snip a hole in the end of the baggie so that you can pipe out the chocolate sauce onto your apple turnover!
