One of the dishes I am requested to make most often are my Cowboy Baked Beans. You may wonder what those are, so let me tell you. This semi-homemade, one pot meal consists of a can or two of regular baked beans, ground beef or turkey, brown sugar, and a dash of hot sauce. The addition of hot sauce may surprise you, but my family adds hot sauce to everything!
What you will need (4-6 servings):
(1) 16 oz cans of baked beans.
1 pound of ground beef or turkey
1 tablespoon of brown sugar
1 tablespoon of El Yucateco hot sauce.
I typically double the recipe because my family loves to eat this as leftovers. Why do some dishes taste better the next day?
Brown your ground beef or turkey and drain. I am using ground beef.
Add in your canned baked beans. Stir until well mixed.
Add in the brown sugar and El Yucateco hot sauce.
As far as which hot sauce you choose, that part is up to you… El Yucataco has three different flavors: Red Habanero Sauce, Green Habanero Sauce, and XXXtra Hot Kutbil-ik Sauce. I added the Kutbil-ik sauce, which is a Mayan flavor, into the recipe while cooking. After tasting my own batch I added a little of the red and green on top to kick it up a little more.
I found El Yucateco Habanero Hot Sauce at my local Publix. They are super affordable and really delicious. And let me tell you, if you are looking to add some heat to a dish these have you covered. A little goes long way. They will definitely get a lot of love around my house. We add hot sauce to everything, even pizza. Actually, I don’t think I can eat pizza without hot sauce anymore. It is something I tried because my husband told me I should and I love it. Go figure.
