So a couple weeks ago Maybelline released a collection of new eye products. One of the most exciting thing from that collection was The Nudes palette. It is essentially the drugstore answer the Naked palettes of the high end world. I have personally seen these at CVS, Walmart and Ulta. And believe it or not, the cheapest place I saw it was at Ulta for $9.99! This is a full review and swatches of Maybelline The Nudes.
So first look you can see that a lot of the shades are very warm. Very similar to the original Urban Decay Naked palette. There are a few shades (the lighter matte ones) that are less warm and more neutral in tone. The swatches below are in order from top to bottom left to right.
As you can see there are some really great ones in Maybelline The Nudes but also some that are lacking. The third one in the top row is a light brown/tan and even though it is light in color, it also doesn’t have great pigmentation. It would work for a great transition color for the crease. I personally like to lay down a skin tone shade to help the darker colors blend over it. It makes for a gorgeous blown out gradient of color.
The black shade (last one in the bottom row) is also lacking in pigmentation. I think that for beginners this black may be the way to go because a full on black can be kind of overwhelming. I even get overwhelmed with them at times because once they are down, they are locked down.
The two light, shimmery shades are disappointing as well. Those are the ones I can’t find a good excuse for. In the look I did below I placed the 5th shadow in the 2nd row down and it was like nothing was there. I did 4 layers of this shadow until I gave up. I then went to the first shadow in the first row. It was slightly better but after all was said and done I did 7 layers of these light shimmery eyeshadows just to get a somewhat pigmented look to my lid. Shimmery shades are usually the most pigmented so for these to fail so hard is kind of inexcusable.
The rest of the shades are magnificent. 8 out of 12 isn’t bad! My two favorites from Maybelline The Nudes are actually the 4th and 6th ones in the top row! Very gorgeous!
Maybelline The Nudes is a pretty decent palette. I would give it a B- if I were grading it. Even though some of the shades are lacking in pigmentation the majority are good. Even a couple of the ones that lack in pigment actually aren’t all that bad. They are slightly powdery with minimal fall out. TIP: I tap my brush to rid it of excess eyeshadow. I find that to be extremely helpful in minimizing fallout.
Tell me in the comments below, do you own Maybelline The Nudes? Are you lusting after it? Do you not want it at all?
