The majority of the questions I have been asked a lot lately from readers (and even other bloggers) are about my fonts. They want to know what fonts I am using and when I tell them that they are purchased fonts, they then tell me that they wouldn’t pay for them. That is fine, I completely understand that. Another question is how I choose my font pairings… So today I am bringing you a different kind of post. I am going to show you my favorite FREE fonts and tell you my tips for fun ways to pair them together.
Tip #1: It is all about the visual. If you are choosing a thick, heavy block letter you should pair it with something more free flowing.
Tip #2: Use different colors that coordinate and possibly tie into your blog’s design. Black on black does not catch my eye and is a little boring. There are some exceptions to the rule but I TRY and incorporate at least two colors in my font pairings.
Tip #3: Try to overlay the frillier font over the heavy font. It adds interest. Do note that not all fonts look good overlapped like that so just eye it up and see if you like it.
Tip #4: If you have a blog then you probably have some sort of custom design. Try to use some of the fonts that are in your branding so that your graphics become your signature. Right away when my readers see my pictures on Pinterest or Bellashoot they will know it is MY picture and will be more likely to repin it AND click through to your site.
Tip #5: Be original with your font pairings. Mix and match the fonts that catch your eye. Make something YOUR signature not someone else’s.
Here are the listings for the free fonts in this post:

I hope that you got something from this post. The fonts that are marked with a ( * ) are ones that were already in my font library so it didn’t require a download. Let me know in the comments below if you enjoyed these fonts and pairings and also tell me what you would like to see in the future. Would you want to know some paid fonts? Would you like to see other kinds of pairings? I have also found some free fonts that are perfect for mommy blogs.
