This #TasteOff was sponsored by Yoplait. All results are the honest opinion of myself and my family.
I am a yogurt fan from way back but had some bad experiences with greek yogurt when the trend was exploding at the grocery stores a couple years ago. Before I was pregnant with my daughter I went to a nutritionist, she told me I should be incorporating greek yogurts into my diet and I tried and tried but never found one I liked. When I got the opportunity to do this taste-off between two of the more well-known yogurt brands in the business I gladly accepted. In a national taste test, Yoplait Greek 100 Strawberry yogurt beat Chobani Simply 100 Strawberry. I drug my entire family into this taste test and they ended up having fun, it is always good to create a good family-time excitement! Are you ready for the results?
For the record, each of these yogurts ran me $1 a cup at my local Walmart so they are the same in price. They both contain 100 calories and are both gluten free. The differences are all in the appearance, taste, and consistency. Consistency is a BIG FACTOR for both myself and my husband, if something is wrong with the consistency then there is no way we can eat it REGARDLESS of appearance and flavor.
Appearance is quite different. Yoplait is pretty and pink and you can see more of the strawberry pieces. The consistency is thinner and smoother. Chobani really white in color and appears very thick and creamy; there are strawberry pieces visible but nowhere near as many as the other.
My husband was the first to try Yoplait. After he tasted it he just nodded and said it was good and tasted like what he expected a good yogurt to taste like. I tasted it and immediately thought it was sweet delicious; I would have never guessed it was greek yogurt. My son tasted it and said it was good. My daughter tasted it and of course opened her mouth open wide and wanted more… typical baby stuff!
When we moved on to Chobani we went in the same order. My husband ate a spoonful and squinched his nose up. I was next to taste it and I think it tasted very bitter. It did taste like strawberry but the bitterness overpowered it as a whole; it was smooth and creamy as I thought it would be from it’s appearance. My son tasted it and decided it was terrible. Raegan was the last to try and she AGAIN held her mouth open wanting more… I mean come on… she eats baby food!
