Rimmel London has a new mascara and foundation out right now: Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara and Stay Matte Foundation. Hello? Both of these produts speak to me. It is the best cheap mascara I have ever used and my skin is oily-as-all-get-out so I am always looking for something to keep me mattified! I used my two new favorite Rimmel products and created a Modern Mod tutorial!
When I think of “Mod”, two people come to mind: Twiggy and Edie Sedgwick. They were the #BeautyInspiration for an entire generation! Their looks are similar and their style was so fun! It was playful, fun and easy-to-do-glam. You don’t need a lot of products to re-create this look. I used all Rimmel products: Stay Matte Foundation, Retro Glam Mascara, Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Silver, English Breakfast eyeshadow quad, and Show Off Lip Lacquer in Nude Eclipse.
{one} Start out by evening out your skin and covering imperfections. I have oily skin and a great option for me is the Rimmel London Stay Matte Foundation. It has medium-full coverage and keeps me looking perfect all day. For this look I wanted my freckles to show through (a la Twiggy) so I used a wet beauty blender and bounced the foundation all over my face. I also used what was left over on the back of my hand as concealer!
{two} Take the Rimmel London eyeshadow quad in English Breakfast and apply the lightest shade all over the lid and under the brow. I actually take this shade on my lower lash line too because it helps cover some of my redness.
{three} Take the darkest shade in the same quad and fill in your brows with it! Using the same shade, lightly buff it into the crease without allowing it to connect to your lash line. The lack of connecting to the lash line really gives it that 60s quirkiness!
{four} Take that same AGAIN and buff it right into the top lashes, a.k.a. tightline! Also taje that shade and create little diagonal lines on the lower lash line so that it will look like exaggerated fake lashes. It gives you all the drama without adding too much black to the look.
{five} Instead of lining my waterline with a white shade I want to update the look and make it more relevant to now. Taking the Silver kohl kajal liner from Rimmel London, line the waterline to make the eyes look larger and add a flirty, metallic flash of color. Also use this liner on the inner corner of the eye to give a wide-awake, wide-eyed look.
{six} A very important part of the mod look is LASHES! Use the Rimmel London Scandaleyes Retro Glam mascara! I did three coats and my lashes went from non-existent to WOW! I love mascaras but this one was INSTANTLY good. I am not kidding you when I say that it is the best drugstore mascara EVER!
{seven} Nude lips were a big trend in the 60s and they are now to! We just have different formulas that we work with now-a-days. Apply the Rimmel London Show Off Lacquer in Nude Eclipse for a full-on luscious pout! IF you want you could actually take this lipgloss on a stippling brush and apply a little bit to your cheeks for a matching blush. I didn’t go that route because I like the minimalistic approach!
{YOU’RE DONE!} Now just snap a picture of yourself in black and white and admire how retro you actually look! You should then TOTALLY hastag the photo with #BeautyInspiration!
I purchased all of these Rimmel London products at Walmart! Their prices are considerably less than other major retailers of drugstore makeup products. And to top it off, April 2014 is Rimmel’s 180 anniversary in the business and they are celebrating by putting $1 off coupons in the Sunday paper!!! Yep, even more affordable!
As if the coupon wasn’t enough, you can now also enter into a fantastic sweepstakes where 25 people are going to win a $50 gift basket of Rimmel Goodies! All the information to enter is in the Rafflecopter widget! :) Go help them celebrate: visit their tumblr, twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. Good luck, have fun, and get your mod on!
