Most of you beauty-obsessed readers already know that Marc Jacobs released a beauty line in 2013 and I have been itching to try it. I was looking at a big kit but started dissecting it and thought it would be appropriate of me to try out the Style Eye-Con No. 7 palette called “The Lolita“. It is a palette of 7 neutral eyeshadows, and if there is nothing I know better than neutral eyeshadows, so I figured this would be a perfect way to get a feel for the brand.
First of all, presentation for me is everything. Marc Jacobs doesn’t disappoint with the “duster bag” for the palette. Most of the pouches that high end makeup comes in is utterly useless to me. I love that this pouch has a snap closure and could potentially become something to tote around other products in my purse.
A continuation of my the extraordinary packaging is the palette itself. It is so sleek, shiny, and compact. Everything from the brand name on top to the snap closure on the side the palette screams luxury. There is even a nice cover that goes over the eyeshadows inside that mimics the outside of the palette, these little covers are a great way to keep the eyeshadow from dusting up the mirror.
There are 7 eyeshadows in this palette and they are so beautiful. They give you a nice variety of shades from light to dark and even mix mattes with shimmers–which is a MUST for me to thoroughly enjoy a palette. I must say that the texture of these shadows are buttery-soft and smooth. They also blend like a dream.
The first three shades in the palette are PERFECT. I have always said that in every palette there should be a light, medium and dark matte. I highlight my brow with a matte eyeshadow because I definitely do not enjoy a ton of shimmer way up there. I almost ALWAYS blend out my crease with a matte shadow because that is the best way to contour and I have a mono-lid. And I always darken the outer-v with a matte shade because too much shimmer on the outside of the eye can make the look your going for appear messy.
The other four shades range from satiny to glittery and have slight variance in color.
I was originally excited about the shade in the palette that is dead-center because it is the color I gravitate towards and it shimmered so beautifully. To my complete irritation it is actually micro glitters that will fall out all over your face. It was a very, very sad discovery. Fortunately the remainder of the shades are perfectly smooth satins and metallics. The shade I actually love the most is the one on the far right. It is a gorgeous bronzy-metallic that is beautiful for any season.
PROS:
Sleek and Compact packaging.
Smooth, buttery finish on the eyeshadows, even the glittery shade blends great.
Nice “duster bag”.
Mattes and shimmers in the same palette.
Variety of Shades.
CONS:
One glittery shade that is unwearable.
VERDICT:
I give the Marc Jacobs Beauty Style Eye-Con No.7 Palette in “The Lolita” ($59) a 4.8 out of 5. It really is a gorgeous palette. If you can figure out a way to keep the glittery shade from having a ton of fall-out PLEASE tell me because I want to love it too! This one palette has me convinced I need to try all of them and other items from the line. You can find this palette on the Marc Jacobs’ website or Sephora.
Have you tried anything from Marc Jacobs Beauty? If so tell me what it is and if you loved/hated it! I am making a wish list! :)
