I have been interested in trying products from the brand Avene. It isn’t exactly a brand that is highly advertised, nor is it a brand I see in stores that I frequent. I do see some of my favorite non-American beauty bloggers and vloggers mention their products from time to time and NOTHING makes me want to try something more than it being uncommon or “hard to find”. I want to share a little history on the brand. After reading this information I couldn’t resist picking up a few things.
“Far more than ordinary spring water, Avene is rooted in dermatology and hydrotherapy, backed by more than 300 clinical studies. Avène Thermal Spring Water originates as rain. The water then takes a 40-year journey through the Cevennes Mountain aquifer which produces thermal spring water ideally suited for the care and management of sensitive skin. It gradually becomes infused with trace elements and silicates, achieving a perfectly balanced mineral composition ideal for sensitive skin. Enriched with the nutrient-rich water and a host of natural supportive ingredients, the Avene skin care range features formulas for a wide variety of skin concerns, including dehydration, hypersensitivity and excessive oil production.” – Avene
During the colder months my lips always feel raw or like they are burning. I tend to wear more lip balms and treatments than actual lip colors because of this… The Cold Cream Lip Cream ($16) nourishes, heals and protects the lips.
The squeeze tube applicator contains .4 fl oz of product and has a slanted (and very comfortable to the lip) applicator. The lip cream itself looks very much like a typical lip balm but it smooths out to a thin consistency and instantly delivers a soothing feeling. It isn’t sticky at all. There is no scent or flavor to it. And to be quite honest… it reacts to my lips the way a good lotion reacts to my skin. Sinks in nicely but leaves a soft barely-there layer on the surface. It says to reapply when needed but compared to most other lip balms, it isn’t necessary to do so that often.
There is an ingredient in this product that stimulates fast repair. Also this lip cream contains shea butter as well as vitamins c & e. The thermal spring water from Avene, France is the ingredient that provides the soothing and softening effect. Overall I give this product two thumbs way up!
I did pick up another product that was catching my eye…
Avene High Protection Tinted Compact SPF 50 is a 100% mineral tinted sunscreen with broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection. I know a lot of people can’t/won’t use chemical sunscreens so this will appeal to many. It comes in two shades: beige and honey. This sunscreen actually applies color to the skin and is intended to be used after skin procedures that will leave the skin extremely intolerant and finicky. It will neutralize discoloration and redness while providing a very high level of sun protection. Another key note… it is water-resistant!
I have the shade in Beige. It looks rather dark in the compact and on my finger swatch but when blended into the skin it gives me a really nice match and I am very light right now. I can’t speak on behalf of the Honey shade but I can say that this range will be suitable for light to medium skin tones.
It applies very nicely to the skin and leaves a semi-matte finish. It is paraben and fragrance free. Also it is a non-comedogenic product so it will not clog your pores. I found this product to be what I always hope a tinted moisturizer would be. I know that this isn’t technically delivering moisture, but I like a nice shade of color, some SPF, and not to make me look shiny! Another great product from Avene.
When I purchased these products from skin1.com there was (and possibly still is) a gift with purchase. When you buy two Avene products there was a bonus gift bag (which is shown in a few of the pictures above) filled with 4 samples of other Avene products. I was sold on this because, like I said before, I wanted to experience the brand. I can’t speak on these samples as I have not given them a go yet, but if they are anything like the Cold Cream Lip Cream and the High Protection Tinted Compact SPF 50 they are sure to be fantastic.
Avene is a brand that I am now extremely impressed with and look forward to trying and testing more products. Have you ever tried anything from Avene? If so, what was it and what were your thoughts? Leave the answers in the comments below! PLEASE recommend me more products!
