The perfect time to really PLAY with makeup is definitely Halloween. I went all out this Halloween and flexed my makeup artistry muscles. I finally attempted gory wound makeup.
My look was inspired by the gorgeous Linda Hallberg (link to post here), but I didn’t copy her exactly. I implemented her idea and changed it up ever so slightly. It was my very, very first attempt and doing anything like this before so it isn’t perfect. I actually did my entire makeup look at my desk at work within an hour.
Doing the look on myself was basically just practice for what I knew I was going to be tackling with my son. My son, husband and myself are HUGE “The Walking Dead” fans so my son just had to be a zombie. I for one was excited because I knew that would consist of makeup only and I wouldn’t have to come out-of-pocket for any costume! WIN! Being that he is 7 years old he has plenty of tattered clothing that is perfect for zombie clothing so it worked out perfectly.
I did my son’s makeup in about half an hour (it would have been less time except he was pretty squirmy). I knew what I was doing this go round and wasn’t second guessing myself and I couldn’t be more proud of the results. He ran into so many of his friends and they were all blown away.
So, the flapping skin was made of nothing more than a torn up napkin and glue, layers upon layers. Foundation applied overtop is how it turns to flesh color. Peel it back a bit to make it hang open and paint the inside with a red liquid lipstick. I actually used Chanel Dragon *which is long discontinued*. It is the perfect blood red.
For the teeth I used a pencil liner applied with a brush to outline the shape of the teeth. I used a brush to fill in the teeth with NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk. I set the pencil with a white eyeshadow from Laura Mercier.
For the bruising I used a NARS Cosmetics eyeshadow called Bali. I did actually use fake blood, which cost $1 at Target.
Hope you enjoyed this post and had a horrifyingly Happy Halloween!
