Highlighters are beautiful and I have usually reserved my highlighters for days that I want to look completely made up. Like, the nights in which I have a party or event to attend. I was chatting with a dear sweet friend, Mira, days ago and she mentioned that she likes to wear highlighter when she is wearing her basic everyday face. That sort of blew my mind. Mostly because I have never thought about that… Much less tried it.
Well.. I gave it a whirl with a brand new product of mine and WOW! It takes my boring everyday look up a notch. The highlighter I am speaking of is (in case you didn’t see it in the title) Rouge Bunny Rouge ~ Seas of Illuminations ~ Sea of Nectar. One thing I like about the brand is that they have a fairy tale-like story to accompany all of their products. I am sort of a dreamer so that part of the brand really appeals to 5 year old deep not so deep inside of me.
The Story:
“At Sunset in the Enchanted Garden, you can fleetingly glimpse the mermaids dancing in the gently lapping waves of the Grand Moon Seas. Evening mists rise and tenderly caress them, lingering langourously on their bodies to gift their skin with uncommon youth and beauty.
We were inspired by this scene to bring you this dream-in-a-bottle, so that you can have your very own transformation. The moisturizing surge of liquid pearls will dance whispers on your skin till dawn. Be as playful as the magical being that you are… you’ll still look as sublimely refined and urbanely elegant as the Moon itself. The tiny reflective particles will illuminate you anywhere you choose, with a sinfully quivering effect to quietly showcase your beauty. Bring fine-spun silver thrills by night or by day to eyes, brows, temples, shoulders… No one can eclipse you, Moon Mermaid.”
The Description:
“This multipurpose water-based fluid blends easily with moisturiser, or with foundation, to customise the look – to yours alone. Create an inside-out illumination effect and blend it to a thin, refined wash of pearls. Light fragrance of Cucumber with a touch of Peach Flower will add to your application pleasure. A quartet of shades with Melissa extract to soothe, and Vitamin E to guard against ageing. The highlighting liquid can be used alone or over moisturiser and as a highlighter, over foundation, too.”
My Thoughts:
First let me talk about the packaging. The first couple of pictures is the outer packaging. This is what it looks like when it arrives to you. I absolutely adore all the detail that is printed onto the box. Delicate scrolls and beautiful flowers in a chic black and white color scheme.
Next is how the product is packaged inside. It is positioned in a sturdy foam-like holder to assure that it doesn’t shift around.
There is a pump on the bottle which is okay at best. I would like to point out that entirely too much product comes out with every pump. I try to control how far I push down, but I am always left with too much. (I usually end up adding the excess product to other areas because it does give off a naturally gorgeous sheen.)
When I first got the product, I was thinking to myself that it reminded me of something that I already had. I pulled out the Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer in No. 1 Even Skin.
I like to use the Pixi primer as a highlight because it gives off a natural sheen just like the RBR Sea of Nectar. They are different as you can see in the heavy swatches below, but when they are sheered out you can really see that they give a similar effect. RBR Sea of Nectar is on the left swatched heavily then sheer and Pixi Even Skin primer is on the right swatched heavily then sheer.
Outside in Natural Light.
Sea of Nectar is much more metallic than the Pixi primer. It also gives off a much prettier sheen to the skin. It’s highlighting quality is MUCH better. You can see how multi diminsional it is just by how it photographed in the heavy swatch. As the swatch went into the shadowy part of my arm it totally transformed colors. :)
Inside with flash.
My Newest Addiction Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ (5 out of 5)
Regardless of the pump letting out a little too much product, I am in love with this. I have worn it everyday that I have worn makeup in the last two weeks. It can be built up to something that is out of this world or worn very subtly with your everyday makeup. I now would love to try the rest of the line. The brand is sold at Zuneta.com. That is the only place I know of at the moment.
I wrote another review on a mascara from RBR for The Driveller Kate. She was kind enough to gift me the mascara and give me a guest poster spot on her fabulous blog.
