Modern Mod with Rimmel London

Rimmel London has a new mascara and foundation out right now: Scandaleyes Retro Glam Mascara and Stay Matte Foundation.  Hello?  Both of these produts speak to me.  It is the best cheap mascara I have ever used and my skin is oily-as-all-get-out so I am always looking for something to keep me mattified!  I used my two new favorite Rimmel products and created a Modern Mod tutorial!

When I think of “Mod”, two people come to mind: Twiggy and Edie Sedgwick.  They were the #BeautyInspiration for an entire generation!  Their looks are similar and their style was so fun!  It was playful, fun and easy-to-do-glam.  You don’t need a lot of products to re-create this look.  I used all Rimmel products: Stay Matte Foundation, Retro Glam Mascara, Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Silver, English Breakfast eyeshadow quad, and Show Off Lip Lacquer in Nude Eclipse.

CoverGirl Be A Bombshell Tutorial and Giveaway

I have recently teamed up with CoverGirl to bring you this tutorial using products from the Bombshell Collection!  They are also kind enough to provide one of my readers with a $100 Walmart Gift Card to go and check out the collection for themselves!

Check out the makeup look I created using the products and then follow the instructions to enter the giveaway yourself!

For me, being a bombshell doesn’t mean the classic red lip or winged eyeliner.  Being a bombshell is different for everyone.  It is creating the look that makes you feel sexy.  I feel my sexiest when I am sporting a simple neutral eye, nude lips, and some dramatic lashes!  That is why I chose the products I did for my “Be A Bombshell” look!

The TruBlend Foundation is one of the newest formulas from Covergirl and it boasts 21 shades, so there is something for virtually everyone.  It’s new numbering system makes it easier for you to find your shade match and coordinating products.  I find this foundation has a medium coverage and a great finish.

The TruBlend Fixstick is the concealer that compliments the foundation mentioned above.  It comes in 6 shades that is easily matched to the numbering system for the foundation.  I feel like this concealer has coverage while also being blendable and lasting.

The Bombshell Shineshadow cream eyeshadow comes in 6 shades: Copper Fling (shown below), Ice Queen, Color Me Money, Platinum Club, Ooh La Lilac, and Gold Goddess.  It has shiny and shimmery reflective pigments so that your eyes dazzle when light hits your face.  They are highly blendable and are easy to apply.  I just used my fingertips!

Bombshell Intensity Eye Liner is a compact liquid eyeliner that packs a punch.  It has a precision felt tip applicator and the formula is easy to apply.  It has intense pigmentation and lasts all day!  I thought I wouldn’t like the short tube but it turns out that it was perfect for me!

Bombshell Volume by Lashblast Mascara is one of the funnest mascaras I have used in a long time.  Typically when I see dual-ended mascaras I expect one end to be white (primer) but that is not the case with this one.  It is a two-step Bombshell Boost System that combines extreme volume with an intensifying top coat for big, sexy bombshell lashes!  Use them in the order they are labelled.  If you are anything like me you are going to tweak your method of applying.  I don’t concentrate too closely on the first step but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the 2nd step.  I can really see my lashes coming to life with the 2nd step!

LipPerfection lipstick puts out gorgeous color that can transform your day and your lips. Enriched with a silk moisturizing complex, the formula helps sustain moisture levels and helps create soft, smooth, beautiful lips in just 7 days.  The shade I chose is 256 Creme.  It is a gorgeous nude shade that I think would work well with many skin tones!

Now for the giveaway!  You must be 18 years or older and live in the US.  The giveaway prize is a $100 Walmart Gift Card so that you can purchase your favorite products from Covergirl to create your own Bombshell look!  I would LOVE to see your own Bombshell looks, so please feel free to post them to my Facebook Page!

Date Night Makeup Tutorial: Natural Glamour

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for #CollectiveBias and its advertiser.
Date Night Makeup is a popular subject right now with Valentine’s Day being just around the corner.    My opinion on good Date Night Makeup is that it doesn’t need to change how you look entirely, just enhance your natural beauty.  There is a time and a place for crazy dramatic eyes and super bold lips, but I feel like date night isn’t really one of those times.  Whether your on your first date, Valentine’s Day date, or your 30th Wedding Anniversary, you should look like the best version of yourself.  Men are known for saying that they like women that don’t wear makeup, my husband says it all the time.  One look at my before photo and you will see why I will not be going out on a date without makeup! HAHA!  I prefer the natural beauty look, just glammed up a bit.  I am going to give you my best makeup tips in this step-by-step tutorial.

Getting the perfect makeup for a date doesn’t require the most expensive beauty counters.  You can go to your local Walgreens and find everything you need.  The #WalgreensBeauty aisle seems never ending and has so many great brands from which to choose.  I don’t have loyalty to one brand over another so I pick up a little from each!  Equal opportunity beauty addict over here! :)  The products I picked up on my most recent visit were the Neutrogena Healthy Skin foundation, Covergirl Bombshell Volume mascara, Wet n Wild Walking On Eggshells eyeshadow trio, a Maybelline Color Tattoo, L’Oreal Lineur Intense liner, L’Oreal Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick, and a Milani Illuminating Face Powder (that looks pretty as blush).  Those are the products I am going to be using in my Date Night look.

Warning!!! I have a new/better lens for my camera now so you will see alllll the flaws in the first picture. ;)

1.  Start with clean, moisturized skin.  I apply my favorite serum and eye cream before continuing with any makeup look.

2. I use a damp sponge to apply the Neutrogena Healthy Skin foundation all over.  I apply thin layers until I have built up the coverage I like.  As you see, it takes away all of my redness and evens out my skin really well.

3. Apply an eyeshadow base.  I use the Maybelline Color Tattoo in Barely Branded.  It is a cream eyeshadow, but I find that it doesn’t budge and provides the perfect amount of pigmentation to rid my eyes of redness.

4. Apply the Walking On Eggshells trio from Wet n Wild the way the eyeshadows are marked (i. e. Eyelid on eyelid, Crease on crease, and Browbone on browbone).  You can skip this step if the cream eyeshadow is enough for you.  I have hooded eyelids so I like to add dimension with the crease shade to give the appearance of a shadow/socket while my eyes are opened.

5. Before I go on to eyeliner I like to define my brows.  I use a dark brown (slightly cool-toned) eyeshadow and an angled liner brush for this, whatever you already have in your collection will do.  I feel like my brows really frame my eye and my eyeliner will look wrong sometimes if I do it first.

6. Draw on your eyeliner.  I went for a pretty cat eye/kitten flick with the L’Oreal Lineur Intense.  I think it adds a bit of flirty-ness to the look.  It is a date night, after all! :P

7. Apply your mascara.  I used the Covergirl Bombshell Volume mascara that has two steps.  You want nice, long, flirty lashes.  If you want, an additional step that packs a big punch are false lashes.  I was going to apply some in this look but I was happy with the look of my lashes after just the mascara.

8. No one is perfect, take a q-tip and clean up any smudges you may have made.  Also apply a 2nd coat of mascara.  LASHES, LASHES, LASHES!

9. A new product that just came out is the L’Oreal Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick.  I wanted to stay on trend for spring with this look so I used Purple Prelude, which is a perfect Radiant Orchid shade (which Pantone named Color of the Year).

10.  Apply your blush!  In my case I used the Milani Illuminating Face Powder which makes for perfectly flushed cheeks with a good amount of sheen.

11.  If you have oily or combination skin, like myself, you want to take this time to powder down your t-zone to keep your makeup looking perfect for longer.  I don’t necessarily want my skin to be matte but I don’t want to look wet in a few hours either.

Overall, I am really excited how this look turned out.  I love that the products I used were affordable for every woman and came from my local Walgreens!  When I came out into the living room, where my husband was waiting patiently, he was so sweet and told me I looked beautiful.  We have been together for almost 12 years and we both find date nights to be extremely important.  It helps us both appreciate each other and keep our love alive!

Let me know if you would like to see a review on any of the products I used in this look.  Also tell me in the comments what type of look you rock on Date Night!

Paul & Joe Stormy Weather Eye Color Trio and Compact

I bought it, press samples, affiliate links.

Hello all!  It is that time again!  FRIDAY! WOO HOO!  Smoky eyes and Fridays go together like peas and carrots since started her Smoky Eye Friday link share months ago!  I want to get in on the action every week but sometimes I just fall short!  I am definitely going to try to be better at that this year!  This look was created with a brand new for Spring 2014 eyeshadow trio from Paul & Joe called Stormy Weather.  It is a gorgeous, sultry shaded trio that is PERFECT for a dark and smoldering look.

The Eye Color Trios ($35) from Paul & Joe Spring 2014 tell a beautiful story.  There are 8 different palettes  that are meant to evoke every moment of this beautiful season from the first blade of grass, April Showers, and May’s burst of bright flowers.  Each of the trios combine three differently textured shades to give depth and allow you to grade, layer, and mix to create a look that matches your Spring style!  You can’t have those bright flowers without those dark and gloomy showers.  The Stormy Weather eyeshadow trio has helped me appreciate the gorgeousness of a gloomy day!

Along with the trios they released some very cute Compacts ($10) to house them!  Three are limited edition, so get your hands on them before they are completely gone!  There are a couple floral ones, a cute kitten one, and the Classic compact!   I have the 003 version which shows a burst of flowers and looks quite retro!  I positively love that it is so bright and fresh, and the innards are so taupe-y!  Perfectly contrasting.

The trio itself has a frosty white-pearl shade, metallic taupe, and a lovely charcoal/gunmetal shade.

Overall, I am in LOOOOOVE with this trio.  The quality, as always with Paul&Joe, is perfect.  The shade range is just my cup of tea an the pigmentation is exactly what I have come to expect!  Now I want to get my hands on even more of the trios!  This entire collection will be available at February 2014 while some of it is already up.  Go check it out, you won’t be disappointed!
Now for the link up!  See what these other gorgeous ladies have come up with in their Smoky Eye Friday posts!

Stila In The Light Get Ready With Me Tutorial

Affiliate links.
OK!  I promised you a YouTUBE video a week or so ago and I mean to deliver!  I have been meaning to upload this video all week but I wanted to do the voiceovers because I know how boring it is to watch a completely silent video.  I just don’t like to talk while I am getting ready.  The video always becomes entirely too long and I lose concentration.  I figure that if I just record what I am doing and narrate later it will be much more pleasurable for myself as well as anyone watching!

In this video I used the Stila In The Light palette, which has been a staple for me lately.  I adore the palette and I hope you get a chance to see it for yourself.  If you are a neutral lover you are sure to love it too!

The look is a very wearable, everyday, neutral look.  It took about 10 minutes to create so I feel like that is more than enough time for the average woman, including on-the-go mothers!

The lip shade I used is the Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick in Plum Perfect.  I love it.  It creates a very muted plum toned lip and will pair well with anything!

I hope you enjoyed the video as much as I enjoyed making it!  I think I finally got my lighting right so look for more videos coming from me more frequently!

Get Ready With Me: Playing With New Makeup

It has been quite a long time since I made a video.  I have been wanting to make one since I got my new camera MONTHS ago but there was a pretty huge learning curve.
I haven’t really given my makeup a good play in months and months due to feeling too pregnant and more recently due to having no time.  I used some new and old items of mine to create the look below and I hope you enjoy!
I am honestly hoping to get better at making and editing video, so please be patient with me.  If you like this look, please subscribe!  Thank you!

Brow Pictorial

I have recently changed the way I do my brows.  I used to fill in my brows with no particular rhyme or reason but I have found that since I have added structure to my routine they look better and more like each other.  I hope you find this informative.

Before I get started I wanted to show you just how terrible my bare brow is.  They are gapped, not of good shape in general, and quite unruly!

Step 1.) Comb through your brows to get all of the hairs aligning in the same manner.

Step 2.) With an angled brush, take a brow powder and draw structured line along the bottom portion of the brows.

Step 3.) Use the same brush and powder to draw a structured line on the top portion of the brows.

Step 4.) At the inside corner of the brows, take your brush loaded with powder and hold it diagonally.  With short strokes fill in the center of the brows going from inner corner throughout.

And then… brush through them again with a spoolie.  TADA!  Your brows are done.  I know that my brows aren’t super angular or perfect by any means but I actually prefer a more natural looking brow.  Whatever brow shape you may have, this method will work for you!  Keep your outer “structure” lines true to the shape you are after and this will result in your own perfect brows every time.
Thanks for following along and like I mentioned in the introduction… I HOPE you found this educational or helpful by ANY means.  What is your favorite method of daily brow grooming and/or process of filling in the brows.  I would love to read your thoughts in the comments below!!!

Sigma Beauty Paris Palette

Sigma Beauty has a limited edition makeup palette called “Paris“.  Sigma had a handful of their top affiliates fly to Paris, France to gather inspiration to create this palette.  It was released months and months ago, but I just got my hands on it and I wanted to share with you my review, swatches, and a Get Ready With Me video using it.

There is an outer sleeve that looks a lot like a letter or a post card, which is tres adorable! :)

There is also an informative insert/pamphlet that accompanies the palette.

When you open it up all the beautiful colors greet you.  8 eyeshadow shades, 2 blushes, a highlight, and 2 brushes.  What a perfect palette, right?

Let’s not forget to mention a large mirror on the lid of the palette.

The eyeshadow section of the palette is sort of split in two.  Colorful, fun, exciting shades on one side and more wearable, sophisticated shades on the other side.  Both sides have eyeshades named after places or monuments around the great city.

The more colorful side has an array of blue tones and a gorgeous, sparkly black.  The swatches below are the eyeshadows above in reverse order.  One swipe and completely, perfectly pigmented.

Of course, my favorite side is definitely the more neutral side.

These swatches are also in reverse order of the picture above.

There is a rosy blush called Rouge.

A peachy blush named Peche.

And a GORGEOUS highlighter called Lumiere.

The swatches below are in reverse order of the pictures.

Here are swatches of the entire palette outside in daylight.

Same swatches taken indoors, with flash.

The brushes that are included are the E55 and the F40.  Both great brushes and essential to any makeup look.

Watch the video below, you can see me play with this palette for the very first time.
This palette is such a great full face palette.  I give the Sigma Beauty Paris palette 5 out of 5 stars.  It really suits my needs and has a nice array of all of the colors I would typically use.  Right now it is on sale for $49 and there is also a 10% off coupon, “January2013″!  Check it out and do so before they are all gone!
