Tarte Rainforest After Dark

YAY for fun fall releases.  Palettes are my favorite.  Are they yours?  Today I have the Tarte Rainforest After Dark palette and I am so excited.  It is essentially an entire face (other than foundation and lipstick) in one palette.  You have highlighter, blush, bronzer and SIX eyeshadows.  This palette can take you from day to night and the shades included are neutrals with a touch of purple.  It is a huge disc and has an exotic snake on the front.  Packaging is everything to me and Tarte Rainforest After Dark NAILED IT.  The limited edition Tarte Rainforest After Dark palette is a gorgeous palette to transition you from Summer To Fall.

Tarte Rainforest After Dark

“Inspired by the rain forest’s deep orchid hues at dusk, Tarte’s limited-edition eye and cheek palette has everything you need to create sultry and sophisticated day to night looks. Infused with colored clay, which naturally color-corrects as it supports oil control, this makeup provides longer wear and truer color payoff. This modern ingredient from the mountainous regions of Brazil brightens, evens, and soothes skin, while the velvety formula glides on and delivers rich color—without settling into fine lines and wrinkles.”

As a girl with oily skin and oily lids I am REALLY excited to try the new colored clay products.  This will be my first go round with them and I am excited.

I am going to take you through the face products first.  The highlighter included is Champagne, the bronzer is Park Avenue Princess (one of my long running favorite bronzers), and the blush is called Unleashed which is a nude rose.

There are 6 eyeshadows in the palette and the first three I am swatting are Bare to Explore (pink beige), Make a Mauve (plum mauve), Plum Away with Me (dark plum).

The next three are Up to No Gold (gold), Tan-gled Up in You (tan), Don’t Turn A-Brown (dark brown).

Tarte Rainforest After Dark

This palette is just so pretty that I wanted to make sure I captured it correctly so I took several photos.  I included one in direct sunlight and one in indirect sunlight.

Tarte Rainforest After Dark

The Tarte Rainforest After Dark palette combines shimmer and matte products in both the face and the eye products.  They also included a nice range of shades, from dark to light.  Neutral palettes are a dime-a-dozen here lately (which doesn’t bother me one bit because that is what I personally enjoy) and it is nice to see that this one included some pretty neutral purple tones.  The fact that the blush and bronzer are matte are also a blush.  I like wearing more matte products in the Fall so this is perfectly on trend, but that highlight… That highlight gives such a gorgeous glisten that can be applied heavily but can also be applied very subtly.  Don’t forget that the face shades could totally be used as additional eyeshadows, too!

The Tarte Rainforest After Dark palette retails for $38 and you should totally get it while you can, as it is limited edition.  You can find it at tartecosmetics.com, Sephora, Ulta, and QVC.

Rainbow Honey July 2014 Mystery Bag

I just got the Rainbow Honey July 2014 Mystery Bag in the mail about an hour ago and I thinkI am making RECORD TIME getting the pictures taken and put up for you to see.  I am doing it so quickly in HOPES that it is still available for you to purchase, as I know these sell out.  I posted a teaser on Instagram about 20 minutes ago and it got a good bit of attention fairly quickly.  Who doesn’t like a good nail polish, right?  Anyway, these mystery bags run $10 a pop.  You can either subscribe to get them every month or purchase them individually as you want them.

This box was full of some pretty terrific items, as you can see.

I will start with the nail polishes.  Right to left: Chemical Plant, Deep Heart Sea, and Viridis.

Chemical Plant is my favorite from the mystery bag.  It is a gorgeous sparkling magenta/violet with sparks of blue and gold shimmer.  I love how it flashes color.

Deep Heart Sea is a sheer blue jelly base with white hearts and and multi-size neon glitters.

Viridis is a sheer base with a green tint and contains micro glitters as well as neon green stars and pastel glitters.  I am partial to micro glitters and stars so this one had me at hello! <3

The other goodies included in this bag are an Eau de Parfum rollerball, Cuticle Balm, and Cooling Gel.  They are all in the Midori scent which is actually quite nice.  I will say that the rollerball stank of alcohol at first but it dried down to light, fruity fragrance.  The cuticle balm contains vitamin e so I already know I will love it.

The cooling gel is quite interesting.  It is a brand new product to the brand.  It is a gel that is enriched with aloe very and has shimmers in it.  I applied it to the back of my hand just to see if the shimmers were annoying and surprisingly, they weren’t.  And I actually kinda liked it!  :)

Overall I am super happy with the Rainbow Honey July 2014 Mystery Bag (found on their website) and I plan on getting these monthly.  Nail polish is always fun to play around with and these 5ml sizes are perfect.  I think the non-polish items are always pretty fantastic too!

My Favorites from Tarina Tarantino

Over the last couple of years I have tried a few different Tarina Tarantino things and I liked them but I just recently tried out a whole bunch of new (to me) stuff and wow!  So many good things to show you.  So these are my favorites from the brand and I hope you love them!tarina tarantino favorites

For starters check out this GORGEOUS Jewel Shadow Palette in Magical.  There are five shades that range from dark purple through light pink and even to a white-ish shade.  Each shadow has a great texture.  Silky smooth, almost creamy with lots of saturated color.  There are some shimmery shades as well as a couple that just have a pearl finish so you may want to pair it with a matte shade of your own choosing.

I could stare at it all day!  Just gorgeous.tarina tarantino eyeshadow

The Fleur de Lash mascara is in a BEAUTIFUL tube.  It looks like it would be so heavy but it is surprisingly light.  The brush pretty big and the formula was designed to thicken and lengthen lashes.  I think it does what it is supposed to because the volume I get from it is pretty dark great.tarina tarantino mascara

The Eye Dream Hyperliner in Broken Doll is a pretty icy pink shade that is perfect for the waterline to give you that doll-like eye look or even smudged onto the lower lash line to brighten up the eye.  I do like to use these pretty pink liners like this to highlight the inner corner of the eye when I am doing purple and pink eye looks.  It is a great liner because it glides onto the delicate eye area very smoothly without tugging and pulling.tarina tarantino eyeliner pink

As you can see from the swatches, the liner and the eyeshadows are super gorgeous.  I am going to create an eye look very soon and when I do I will update this post with a link to it or with the image itself. I may even film a video!  Who knows what tomorrow will bring?  haha  <3

Smashbox Full Exposure

I have been wanting to show you this palette for a week or two now so I am so excited to finally post this review and makeup look.  Neutral eyeshadows are totally my thing and I feel like the Smashbox Full Exposure palette hasn’t gotten the fair amount of attention that it deserves.  This palette has 14 eyeshadows: 7 matte and 7 shimmers.  It is a neutral palette lover’s DREAM.Smashbox Full Exposure palette review

I love how in the Smashbox Full Exposure palette warm shades are concentrated on the right side of the palette and the cool shades are on the left.  Grouping them together in this fashion actually make it dummy-proof.  I also love how they placed the two perfect highlights, shimmer and matte, right in the center and both are very neutral in tone.  Perfect compliment to either side of the palette.  Ingenious placement, for sure.

Sort of GORGEOUS, right?  Well get ready for all of the swatch pictures of the Smashbox Full Exposure palette now!

The first two pictures are the first row of shimmer shades.  There are 7 shadows so I had to break it up into 2 pictures because I only have 4 fingers (not including the thumb ;P).

The 2nd row consists of the matte shades.  So pigmented and creamy for being matte shades.  I am so impressed by these shades because matte eyeshadows are known for being powdery, chalky and less pigmented than shimmery.  The mattes in the Smashbox Full Exposure palette definitely isn’t any of those things.

I included to different shots of arm swatches.  The first one was taken in direct sunlight to pick up the shimmer bits. LOOK at how saturated the color is.

The 2nd photo was taken in the shade.  And you can see that the darker shimmer shades just wont quit.  Amazing.

So this palette is also accompanied by a sample of their Full Exposure mascara.  I used it in the makeup look I show below.  I think it is really good.  I only did one coat and I was super impressed with just one coat.  I love big, bristle-y brushes.  They are my favorite for volume.

smashbox full exposure mascaraThe Smashbox Full Exposure palette also comes with a dual ended brush.  One side is meant for mattes and one side is meant for shimmer.  If you are like me you don’t really pay attention to the actual uses of brushes and use what you think they would be good for.  The “matte side” really reminds me of a MAC 217, which I LOVE and have 3 of…  I use this kind of brush in virtually every eyeshadow look I do.  it is perfect for applying color to the crease, applying lid color.  You can use the tip of the brush to run shadow along the lower lash line.  It is a huge work horse.

smashbox full exposure matte brush

This brush is interesting.  It is for “shimmer” but it is dual sided.  There was a whole collection of dual sided makeup brushes from MAC and I actually reviewed some dual sided brushes from Japonesque.  It is a nice brush.  Good for packing shadow onto the lid.smashbox full exposure shimmer brush

And the rest of the pictures are me wearing a few of the warmer shades.

I am totally in love with the Smashbox Full Exposure eyeshadow palette.  I love every single one of the eyeshadows and that mascara is a winner too!  I think that the selection of shades are the best compilation for neutral eyeshadow lovers.  There are many other high end neutral palettes on the market but none that really got me excited like this one. The entire bottom row reduces your need for the Naked basics palette, the entire top row reduces your need for Naked 1 and 2 palettes.  The only thing you would be missing is colorful shades, which isn’t the point of this palette anyway.  I recommend this palette to everyone because these shades are so versatile.  The mattes could be added into just about any makeup look and who doesn’t love a little shimmer?

Anyway, this palette retails for $49 and you can find it at SephoraNordstrom, Macy’s, and Smashbox.com.
