Drybar Gold Mine Review + Giveaway

I am kind of in love with all of the Drybar products I have ever used.  One of my most favorite as of late is the Gold Mine Shimmering Leave-In Conditoner.  It is a multi-purpose leave in conditioner that actually leaves behind a gorgeous gold shimmer to the hair.

DryBar Gold Mine Shimmering Leave-In Conditioner

“This all-in-one formula packs multiple benefits into one product with a pretty shimmer on top. It conditions, detangles, and evens out texture for a polished finish. The protective formula prevents hair from future damage, provides moisture, and imparts shine while softening and restoring elasticity to hair. Superfine mica adds a multidimensional shimmering effect.” – Drybar

A lot of the time I use a shampoo in the shower and skin a regular conditioner.  I balance out my hair routine with a leave-in because it does so much more without weighing my hair down.  The Drybar Gold Mine Shimmering Leave-In Conditioner not only provides hydration to my hair, it softens, restores elasticity, prevents damage, detangles… so many things that my regular conditioner doesn’t do.  Another thing it does is ads the most gorgeous shimmer to my locks.

DryBar Gold Mine Shimmering Leave-In Conditioner

I have tried to capture this effect in my hair in numerous photos but none of them showed anything.  I even applied entirely to much a few times in an attempt to capture the luminosity.  In reality I ended up looking like a cheerleader after making a goal post sign.  It only takes a pea-size amount of product to work into your entire mane.

I love Drybar Gold Mine ($29 at Sephora) so much that I went out and purchased one to give away to you all!  I sincerely wish I could show you what it looks like in my hair.  It is so subtle but definitely adds a brilliance that I am in love with and never want to give up again!

Too Faced Cat Eyes Palette

When I first learned about the Too Faced Cat Eyes palette I knew I needed it immediately based on the packaging alone.  I am a fan of everything animal print and an even bigger fan of cat eyes.  The shades in this palette are quite unique and not at all what I thought would be in the palette.  I am excited to share with you my swatches, review and tutorial.

too faced cat eyes palette

Like all of Too Faced’s “Eyes” palettes there are 9 shadows broken down by three rows and three columns.  Each row is a collection of shadows they break down into looks that they show you how to recreate in a little booklet they call a “How-To Glamour Guide”.

There is something a little different with this palette than previous ones I have owned.  Each row has a dark shade that can be used wet or dry as an eyeshadow or a liner.  I also love how each of these looks are so different.  I honestly do believe there is something in it for everyone, neutral lover and colorful mavens alike.

The first row is Day.  It consists of Purrr, Tiger’s Eye, and Leopard.

Purr is a soft, shimmering white/cream/beige.

Tiger’s Eye is a gorgeous coppery bronze with a metallic finish.

Leopard is a warm chocolate brown with gold shimmer.

Classic is possibly my favorite row from the palette and it includes Meow, Pussy Cat, and Jungle Love.

Meow is a matte beige.

Pussy Cat is a pretty lavender purple.

Jungle Love is a deep purple with pink and violet shimmers.

Fashion is an interesting row.  It combines Kitten, Kitty Glitter, and Panther.

Kitten is a whitish-pink satin.

Kitty Glitter is is a shimmering silver with a baby blue tint.  It also happens to be my favorite name in the palette.

Panther is a jet matte black.

I think that the textures and formulas in this palette are pretty good.  The only shades that even halfway disappoint are actually meant to be used wet or dry and those are the liner shades.  I think that the streakiness in those swatches are quite unfair to them because they are actually quite smooth and when used wet with a liner brush you can see that the pigmentation is great.

The Too Faced Cat Eyes palette is pretty darn awesome and retails for $36 at Sephora and Macy’s.  Even though the palette includes a Glamour Guide I did my own look using the shades in this palette.  I honestly didnt even open the Glamour Guide because I try to keep my looks as original as possible.  I hope you like my easy to follow step-by-step tutorial.too faced cat eyes palette tutorial

Step 1:

Apply Pussy Cat all over the lid with a flat shade brush.

Step 2:

Apply Pussy Cat into the crease with a fluffy brush so that it blends and fades into the crease and up to the brow bone area.

Step 3:

I am condensing two things in this one step.  Apply Meow to the brow bone to continue to blend out the crease shade as well as place Purrr on the tear duct area for a pretty highlight.

Step 4:

Place tape from the lash line up to the eyebrow and then use a tapered fluffy brush to apply Jungle Love in the shape of a thick winged liner.  It isn’t going to be the actual liner but definitely adds interest.

Step 5:

Apply Jungle Love to the lower lash line and connect it to the top lash line.

Step 6:

Use a wet thin liner brush and apply Panther on the top lash line into a thinner winged liner.  Also use it on your waterline and tightline.

Step 7:

Apply your favorite mascara, I used Too Faced better Than Sex.

Step 8:

Apply your favorite false lashes.  I used Eylure Katy Perry lashes in “Oh Honey”!

I sincerely hope you enjoyed my eye look with the Too Faced Cat Eyes palette.  I feel like it was easy to use and also a little out of the ordinary for me.  I also did a video form of this tutorial, so whichever form of tutorial you like, picture or video, I have it here for you!

I encourage you to check out my fellow Makeup Warriors and see all of the looks they created with the same palette.  I know I can’t wait to check them out for myself!

LORAC PRO Matte Lip Color

I love shimmer on my lips just as much as the next gal but finding a truly gorgeous matte lip is a pretty daunting task.  I recently came across these fabulous the LORAC PRO Matte Lip Color pencils.  They allow you to color, line and define all in the same product.  The three shades I have to show you today are Coral, Fuchsia and Violet.

LORAC PRO Matte Lip Colors

“This velvety-smooth, matte lip color is infused with anti-aging antioxidants of Acai Berry, Pomegranate, Grape Seed Extract and Vitamins C and E to help nourish and protect your lips. The PRO tip hugs the curves of your lips with precision and control while the weightless, PRO formula easily glides on with a long-lasting, matte finish. PRO Matte Lip Color comes in an array of highly-pigmented, build able, rich colors from natural nudes to vibrant hues for a modern, matte lip in any shade you desire.” – LORAC Cosmetics

The LORAC PRO Matte Lip Color in Coral is a warm, pink red.

The LORAC PRO Matte Lip Color in Fuchsia is perfectly described by the title.

The LORAC PRO Matte Lip Color in Violet is a gorgeous violet purple shade.

The swatches show just how pigmented, smooth and perfect they are.  They are all 3 very bright shades that can carry an entire makeup look on their own.

No matter what the season, bold lips are always in style and these lip pencils are everything.   These LORAC PRO Matte Lip Color pencils are perfect.  They are velvety with modern matte finish.  The highly-pigmented, rich color you get with these pencils is really incomparable to anything I have tried. They are compact and easy-to-use and fit perfectly into a makeup bag or handbag.  They retail for $16 at Ulta, Kohl’s, and loraccosmetics.com.

NARS Smokey Eye Kit

NARS Gifting for Fall 2014 includes the beautiful Smokey Eye Kit, the NARSissist’s most-coveted everyday essentials for eyes. Ready to wear—anytime, every place.  I am a neutral junkie and even though I have 2 of these shades already  I think this is a very necessary kit.  It has a travel brush, a mini liner and this gorgeous compact with 3 shades inside.  Essentially it is the basics of what you need for travel and quite compact.

NARS Narcissist Smokey Eye Kit

The compact contains Madrague I, Bali and Mekong. Madrague I is a matte cream, Bali is neutral matte medium taupe, Mekong is an expresso infused with gold micro glitters.

nars smokey eye kit

This kit includes a mini version of the Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Via Veneto. It is a rich and creamy black pencil that glides on smooth with all the pigmentation in the world and stays there.  This is actually the first chance I have had to play with a NARS eyeliner and I think that it is just everything.  I also love the shape of the tip.  I wish it would stay like that forever because it is truly perfection.nars via veneto pencil

The last item in this set is a travel size of their #43 Wide Contour Eyeshadow brush.  It is the go-to artist essential that does it all: tap, blend, or sweep shadow with ease. Angled doe foot shape allows for all-over or precise application.nars travel size 43 brush

These shades are so beautiful together.  I don’t think I would have ever paired Bali with Mekong on my own.  Maybe I would, but I never have in the past.

Now it is time for some compare and contrast.  I do not have Madrague I from any other palette or single so I can’t compare that one for you.  I can only explain that this one is fabulous.  The texture is soft and smooth and for it to be a cream it is extremely pigmented.

nars smokey eye comparisons

Bali is one of those shades that is perfect to sweep all over your lids and just wear on its own for a subtle smokey eye.  Swatched on my finger tips they look very similar.  The texture in the Smokey Eye Kit is actually slightly softer and smoother, but that could be because the 9944 Best palette is quite old now and the texture could have changed.

nars bali comparison

NARS Mekong also looks identical while swatched on the fingers.  The single is actually softer an the Smokey Eye Palette but only by a little bit.

nars mekong comparison

So all swatched out on my arm side by side you can see real differences.  The Bali in the 9944 palette is less dark and a touch cooler in tone.  It also appears that the Mekong in the Smokey Eye Palette is less warm than the single.  So perhaps these shades were altered slightly to make them more agreeable?  More neutral…

Overall, the NARS Smokey Eye Kit is beautiful and you will get use out of it whether you are brand new with makeup or are a pro.  These shades are staples in my routine and have been for yours.  This kit will retail for $59 at narscosmetics.com (July 15th) and all other boutiques and department stores (like Sephora) starting August 1st.
