October 2012 Favorites

Wow… this feels like strange territory!  It has been so long since I did a Favorites post… Like June or maybe even further back.  I have been sort of uninspired recently to do favorites because sometimes most of the time it ends up being a lot of the products that I reviewed that month and I hate to reiterate the same points.  This month’s favorites was all about rediscoveries!  I took these photos with my iPhone because my camera’s battery died RIGHT as I went to snap the first picture! Ready?

For starters I want to mention the color products.  The MAC quad was made by me.  I haven’t been using my MAC eyeshadows much in the last year but they were calling to me.  My all time favorite eyeshadow in the WORLD is Sable and it is the top left.  The other three are Naked Lunch (top right), Smut (bottom left) and Shore Leave which is limited edition from years ago (bottom right).  This combo is GORGEOUS and I accidentally put them together.  I knew I wanted to use the top two in a look together and recently Shore leave has been my GO TO inner corner highlight.  Smut is always a favorite for the outer v and there you have it… History was made!  Favorite custom MAC quad!

A MAC blush that I have always lusted after is Fleur Power.  I acquired it in a swap at the beginning of the month and fell head over heels for it.  It has been on my cheeks for the majority of the month.  I love it.  Pretty bright pink with a TOUCH of coral.  I am pregnant but every time I wear this people tell me I am radiant.  I know it is the blush!!!

I am also loving the Jurlique Citrus Purifying Mist.  I use it after cleansing to give me a nice hydrated feeling.  It smells wonderful and feels amazing on the skin.  A definite favorite from the Jurlique skincare line I am testing and will post about soon.
Billion Dollar Brows automatic pencil is amazing.  I have been using it non-stop since I purchased it.  Seriously–no other product has touched my brows since I opened it’s package.  I reviewed it previously here.
NARS Eyeshadow Base has been a favorite this month.  My hormones have my eyelids going nuts.  Bases that have never allowed creasing (on me) before aren’t working now.  I went through a few different ones and reached for this trusty base and it actually is working.  Thank the lord!  I haven’t given it a full on review yet but here is the haul post that I did when I received it a year and a half ago! WOW, right?
Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection concealer in 2-Light has been my most reached for concealer.  I always love it but recently I have been relying on it and it alone to perfect my complexion.  I have tried not to use any foundation because my face has cleared up a great deal and this has really done the trick.  I need to get a  new one pretty soon.  It is about tapped.
I just recently reviewed the Laura Mercier Deluxe Travel Brush Collection and two of my favorite brushes this month came from it.  The Blush Brush is absolute perfection.  I haven’t ever used a paddle shaped blush brush before but it is really great for precision–which I need sometimes because I have big ole cheeks!  When I smile you can see I actually have pretty nice cheek bones but the precision of blush application really helps that stand out.  The other standout brush in this set is the dual-ended Smudge/Flat Eye Liner brush.  These are both full size brushes, they are just dual ended.  The eyeliner brush comes to a perfect thin point and I like that it isn’t angled.  The Smudge side is the real standout though.  I apply inner corner highlight, eyeshadow on the lower lash line AND smudge my eyeliner with it.  It is amazing.
What are your October 2012 Favorites?  Do any of our favorites match?  Let me know in the comments below!  Also let me know if you would like me to do monthly favorites consistently like I used to!  I enjoy doing them but I sort of stopped at the risk of sounding redundant!

Tanya Taylor S/S 2013 Makeup Look

NARS created the look for the Tanya Taylor runway show. Lead artist Uzo created a flawless face with a more natural brow.  “[The look channels] Natalie Wood from the early 60s at the famous Sandy Lane Hotel in Barbados,” said Uzo. “The skin is fair and flawless. Brows are lightly filled in to look somewhat messy but natural

Beauty in action.  I love seeing pictures of makeup artists doing their thing!  The level of professionalism displayed on their face is always inspiring.

Gorgeous Tanya Taylor designs.  I love the fun spring patterns and colors!

Love a fresh faced look.  You can tell by most of the looks that I post here, but something about looking as though you aren’t wearing much makeup –even when you are– just really gives off a chic appearance!  It says “I am not afraid to look natural, but I still like a good beauty routine.”  Tons of blush and eyeshadow is ok, but sometimes simple is better.  K.I.S.S.=Keep It Simple Stupid! :)

NARS Andy Warhol Holiday Collection 2012: Pop Collection

This collection is absolutely massive.  It is a 3 part collection.  I already posted on the Color Collection, the Silver Factory Collection and now I am bringing you the Pop Collection.

Andy said: “Pop art is about liking things.” Like flowers. Soap. Money. Celebrities.
Warhol loved silk screens because if you get the picture right, you can make
more just the same. But in a range of colors – something different every time.
Andy said, “I use mostly artificial color.” If you’re not trying to be real you don’t
have to get it right. That’s art.

Palettes feature variations on Andy Warhol’s painting, Flowers, 1965.
Chrome logo on compact and Andy Warhol quotes on mirrors.

White, brown rose, dark lavender, and gold against a shimmering lavender
grey background and black overspray

White and heather blue against a shimmering lavender grey background
and black overspray

White, pink champagne, and dark brown against a shimmering lavender
grey background and black overspray

Debbie Harry was Andy’s pal – the pop star and the pop artist. Debbie was thrilled
to be painted by him because it meant she was as famous as Liz and Marilyn.
A Warhol portrait was like the best makeover – looking great in all different colors.
Inspired by Warhol’s use of “Diamond Dust,” the palette’s colors sparkle with glitter
and Diamond Powder, made of real micronized diamonds. Palette includes:
White shimmer
Sparkling turquoise
Starry black
Twinkling purple
Brilliant cream
Shimmering pink champagne

Warhol made paintings of iconic people and he made ordinary things iconic, like
flowers, soup, and lips. His paintings were pop themes and their bright, electric
colors popped off the walls.
Presented in a keepsake soup can, the gift set includes:
DRELLA (ultra-sheer hot pink)
CHELSEA GIRLS (innocent, flesh-toned beige)
BLUE MOVIE (pink sherbet)
MYTHS (rosy pink)
In 1964 Andy painted flowers because he wanted to make something pretty.
Decades later they still look fresh, popping out of any background like a pretty face.
The gift set includes:
IT NAIL POLISH (black violet)
LIP GLOSS (peachy pink with golden shimmer)
This collection will be released October 1 at Sephora and

NARS Andy Warhol Holiday Collection 2012: Silver Factory

In the NARS Andy Warhol Holiday Collection 2012 there are three parts: the Color Collection, the Silver Factory and the Pop Collection. In this post I will be showing you the Silver Factory Collection.

In a new makeup gifting collection for department and specialty stores, NARS
captures the spirit of Warhol’s Silver Factory. The edgy energy of the Screen
Tests, the intense color of the silkscreens, and the cool of Warhol’s superstars –
underground icons and downtown divas who amazed audiences just by being
themselves. For Andy the factory characters were like a full spectrum palette –
personality as color.

Palettes feature variations on Andy Warhol’s painting, Self Portrait, 1967.
Chrome logo on compact and Andy Warhol quotes on mirrors.
SELF PORTRAIT 1 (black, bright periwinkle blue, and vibrant green)
SELF PORTRAIT 2 (black, white, and silver)
SELF PORTRAIT 3 (dark brown with shimmer overspray, rose pink, and heather blue)
Available exclusively at Department and Specialty stores, NARS Flagship
Boutiques, and on November 1st at

Andy listed his occupation as ‘Factory Owner.’ He called his silver-foiled studio
‘The Factory’ because for him art was work, and it took a team to make it. His
‘superstars’ surrounded him there, but he said he was hanging around them.
Accompanied by a silver deluxe cosmetics bag, the gift set includes:
SHADOWS TRIO EYESHADOW (aluminum, bright deep purple, and matte black)
CHELSEA GIRLS PURE MATTE LIPSTICK (innocent, flesh-toned beige)
DESIRE BLUSH (delicate bright pink)
BLUSH BRUSH - Brush #8
Available November 1 at select doors only

Edie Sedgwick was the sixties It Girl, with the biggest eyes, the shortest skirt and
longest legs. For Edie life was a non-stop performance. Edie and Andy were silver
haired lookalikes. Andy said “she had more problems than anybody I ever met,”
but she was his muse and if Andy were a girl he would have been Edie.
Presented in an authentic 16mm film canister, the gift set includes:
EDIE EYESHADOW (cream with a little bit of shimmer)
DEEP THROAT / AMOUR BLUSH DUO (shimmering, sheer peach and matte peachy pink)
Available November 1 at

Candy was the ultimate blonde bombshell. She was Andy’s greatest actress, even
though she was a man. She said “You must always be yourself no matter what the
price. It is the highest form of morality.” She thought beauty was a duty and worked
harder at it than anyone.
Accompanied by a silver deluxe cosmetics bag, the gift set includes:
FEMME FATALE DUO EYESHADOW (sheer white shimmer and fresh mint green)
Available November 1 at

Andy believed in a trademark look. His silver hair made him look ironically young.
His shades added mystery. He looked like he had a secret, even if he didn’t. He
was shy of strangers but he liked being famous. He said it gave him an aura.
The gift set includes:
BACK ROOM (black)
SOUP CAN (perfect red)
CHELSEA GIRLS (innocent, flesh-toned beige)
Available November 1 at

Taupe-tastic Tuesday: NARS Lhasa

Ahhh…. Tuesday is slowly becoming my favorite day of the week! :)
NARS Lhasa isn’t brand spanking new to the market but I finally picked it up a few weeks ago and used it for the first time on Monday and I knew immediately what taupe would be talked about today!

NARS packaging is very plain, black and white.  The compact itself is a rubberized plastic material that some people find difficult to keep clean.  I personally don’t have a big problem keeping them clean.  I have a couple blushes that I swapped others for that are a little yucky, but the ones that have been in my possession since “birth” are pretty clean.

Here is what the back of the packaging looks like.  I know I enjoy these label photos, and find that they can be helpful at times when you are trying to authenticate your purchases/swaps.

Now for that beautiful pan of all things good in the world.  It is a beautiful hazy lavender grey with a smidge of mink that can be piled on to give a sultry dark smokey eye or blended out to leave a soft wash of color behind.  It is such a versatile, multi-faceted shade.

It has a beautiful rich satin finish.  You can see that this is a highly pigmented eyeshadow from the finger swatch.

Like I said before, the first time I wore this was Monday (yesterday) and I just did a wash all over the lid and built up the color on the outer half and added a shimmery inner corner highlight and it was perfect.  It looked polished but not overdone.  I am definitely going to do the same look again soon to show you how simple, yet great it looked.

You all know that I own a ton of taupes… I have really tried to refrain from purchasing more unless they are truly unique or create a sense of urgency for me… NARS Lhasa did just that.  I can not tell you how much I love it.  I always knew I would, but I was trying to be strong!
Do you own NARS Lhasa?  If not, what is your favorite NARS Product?  Let me know in the comments below!  :)

NARS Eyeliner Stylo

NARS is launching an exciting new product today, August 1, called the Eyeliner Stylo.  Bold and intense definition for the eyes, and they call it a modern liquid liner.

The Eyeliner Stylo will come in 4 highly-pigmented colors.  It claims to last 24 hours: it applies quickly and smoothly and dries down quick to stay put.  It comes to an ultra fine tip for precision but by adding a little  pressure while applying you can create a bolder line.

Carpates – Black
Nuku Hiva – Brown
Atlantic – Navy
Koala – Grey
It will retail for $27 and can be purchased at

Sunday Ramble: Let’s Catch Up!

It has been a while since I did a personal-type “What’s going on with me…” post.  I figured I would catch you up on what I did this week.
I did a reviewtorial (oh yeah, just created that word) earlier in the week on the H2Pro Beauty Life Vivace 1″ Flat Iron and after I did the tutorial I snapped a quick picture.  You can really see how long my hair has gotten.  Everytime I see a picture of myself like this I am even a little astonished.  It makes me laugh because 5 years ago or so I had a Victoria Beckham inverted bob and I was so petrified about how I looked with hair that short I haven’t ever given it a real cut or style since.  I have really enjoyed my long hair, and since I have let it get long I have more options with it.  I intensify the natural wavy-ness of my hair quite often recently… Summer no-fuss, no-muss.

Another thing I realized is that my stash is in utter disarray.  I have storage/organization but it isn’t working for me.  I need something more stylish and larger than the current setup I have.  I don’t want a vanity… I wouldn’t use it so it would be a waste of space for me.  I have always stood in my bathroom in front of a sink (because I wash my hands A LOT during my application process) so I want something that is functional and looks okay in a corner of my bathroom… and I am thinking that will be the IKEA Alex drawer set…  I just don’t wanna pay the hefty shipping cost for it and I don’t live close to an IKEA.

Speaking of needing to purchase things… WOAH I went nuts on a spending spree this last week.  I have had a membership for a long time now but NEVER purchased anything. Well… the recent candy inspired peep-toed pump that came out really caught my attention.  I logged in to take a peek at it and stumbled into THIS beautiful shoe.  It is the style called “Malaya”.  I really liked the candy shoes but I know DEEEEEP down in my heart that I would absolutely never wear them.  I am in LOVE with these peep-toed mules however and I would get so much use out of them.  And I am currently needing a pair of black shoes. Another thing that I love about these shoes is the versatility.  They would look AMAZING with shorts, maxi dresses, dress pants, jeans… You name it!  I can’t wait til these babies get to my front door!

Further haulage was done…  I have been trying to stop spending so much on beauty products these last few months and I have sort of stocked up on gift cards and I was making a return at my local Sephora the other day and look at all the things that crept into my basket…  *shifty eyes*  OKAY!  I put them there… they didn’t jump in themselves…  Sheesh!
The items I got on my first Sephora trip last week were the Dior Rosy Tan quint (EEEP!), Lancome Miel Glace blush, Too Faced Chocolate Soliel bronzer (this is the item I swapped out, I purchased Milk Chocolate and needed Chocolate), Dior Lip Glow, and Laura Mercier Lush Nectarine.  I have been wanting each and every single product in this picture for over a year I was just resisting temptation.  I am happy with this purchase because I let myself long after these products for so long.  Felt triumphant to make these purchases.

The very next day I went to Sephora again… I guess I was on a high from the first purchase so I went back for more items that I have been wanting for a while.  For starters, I repurchased my favorite deodorant from Lavanila (in a scent that I haven’t tried before).  I also purchased a few other items I have been dying to get which were the NARS Lhasa single, Lorac Exposed blush, Sephora 55 airbrush and the Too Faced Natural Face palette.  I repurchased the Philosophy Falling on Love rollerball… but then I threw in some sporadic other items like the Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream eyeshadow in #13 and the Benefit Boo Boo Zap.  I don’t regret the purchases at all but for some reason I didn’t get the same excited triumphant feeling as I did the first day.  Oh well… I love everything (that I have gotten around to trying) so far and I will definitely do reviews on some/all of the items hauled this week at some time or another.

What have you hauled lately?  Big humongous hauls or one or two items?  Let me know in the comments below… spark my interest to go buy more! LOL

Catching Up… and stuff…

I have been so MIA lately it isn’t funny.  I was in a regular habit of writing posts that were filled with a bunch of fluff and “what I have been thinking about lately” and over the last 6-8 months I sort of stopped doing all of that…  Not because I wanted to cut that content out of my blog but because the rest of my life hit me smack in the face.
Some of you know that my husband is in the Navy, and for those that didn’t–now you do, and without any real notice he had to leave last November.  I live 1000 miles away from my family and have few friends in my local area so it is really hard to do it all by myself.  I have a 6 year old son and when my husband is gone during the holidays it is hard on him, which in turn makes it hard on me.  I am not complaining because I love my life, where I live, and I am proud that I can say my husband serves my country with honor.  What I am basically trying to say is that being a mommy (all by yourself, so technically you are mommy and daddy) as well as working a full-time job leaves little to no time to have a life…  Thankfully my husband is back (and has been back for a couple months) and life has resumed as it once was!
My blog is where I can get my creative outlet and chit-chat with “the girls”…  Yes… YOU ARE ALL MY GIRLS! LOL  I just want to take a minute to say “I MISS YOU!”  I feel like when I stopped putting up these rambles and personal touches to my blog I lost interaction from my readers.  I have noticed a decline in people commenting and I can’t help but feel responsible.  Thank you to those of you that have been reading since the start and thank you to those of you that just started following.  It is a real wonder that I still have you amazing ladies (and possibly gentleman) reading after so much time has passed!  I just want to let you know that I AM BACK!!! Even if I never technically left…
So first up for today… I took some snapshots of my makeup on my lunch break…. what better thing to do than have a mini photo shoot with yourself when you have an extra 15 minutes?
Me looking away from the sun… more true representation of my skintone and YAY look at my good hair day!! I HAD to document that… Good hair days are few and far between in the Florida spring/summer season.
Me looking towards the sun.  The sun washed my face out a little bit, but I feel like my eyeshadow is true to color hear so I felt it was necessary to include it.

What I am wearing:
Philosphy Heavenly Light Pink Illuminator
Shu Uemura Nobara foundation stick
Rock & Republic pressed powder
Josie Maran Bronzing Powder in Beach No. 1
Sephora + Pantone Apricot Brandy blush
NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base
Bare Minerals “The Truth” quad
Smashbox Limitless Eyeliner in Onyx
Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill mascara
MAC Mystery to fill in brows
Giorgio Armani Rouge d’Armani in 102 Beige
MAC TenderTone in Hush, Hush
I am boring and neutral yes but I can’t help it.  I love taupe eyeshadow, nude lips and pink cheeks… :P
What is new with me?  Well… my husband talked me into getting a pool weeks back.  We designed the shape of our pool and deck, as well as picked out all of the tile color etc. about a month ago and we have been waiting forEVER for our HOA to decide that it was within standards for the neighborhood.  :/  Once we knew it was good to go the pool company had their guys in our backyard immediately.  There was an excavator in our back yard for a little over a week (and thankfully they took the keys with them because my husband had his eye on it last weekend) and here is the result…
A giant hole in the backyard…

Can you see me?  haha  I love little oopies you find after taking a picture.
This will be the shallow end…

This will be the deep end…
Another shot of the deep end from the other side of the pool… Isn’t it neat how they sculpted the step/bench out of the dirt?  It all amazes me.

Those pictures were taken yesterday…  So when I got home from work today it looks like this…

They created the structure for the pool out of iron rods and put the skimmer and other odds and ends in place.  Hell…. I may come home tomorrow to find they have concreted it.  This seems to be moving along way faster than I imagined.  And thank the lord too!  Summer is UPON US!!!
Wanna know what I didn’t think about when I signed the contract for the pool………………….
The hours of the men creating the pool, that is what.  They are some dedicated little worker bees.  They get into my yard every morning as the sun is peeking over the tops of the trees making it impossible to sleep in.  My poor husband is working nights (3pm-random times of night/morning) and he has usually only been asleep for a couple hours before he is woken up from all the noise.  Luckily I am usually on my way out the door as the sun comes up so I don’t get the majority of the noise…
Anyway, that is my ramble for the day… I hope I can post another ramble very soon!  Thank you guys again for being faithful readers!  *SQUISHES*  It means a lot.
