Wear Makeup Like an Olympian with Jane Iredale 24-Karat Gold Dust

Press Sample.

With the Olympics going on I can’t help but get inspired by the metals  they are all competing for.  Gold, Silver, or Bronze… each one is a victory.  The eyeshadow I am going to talk about combines gold with bronze so it is a double-win, right?  Jane Iredale’s 24-Karat Gold Dust Shimmer Powder in Bronze is beautiful.  This line actually has shades for all the major metals: Gold, Silver, Bronze, Rose Gold, and errr.. Champagne.  :)

Jane Iredale’s write up on this product: “Apply it to the cheeks, eyes and lips for a delicately gilded look. Mix it with a moisturizer for the décolletage; or into your favorite hair product for luminous locks!”

So this multi-purpose powder is finely milled and super shimmery.  It is essentially my perfect recipe for an eyeshadow.  I am almost speechless when I speak about it.  It is one of those things that to see it is to love it.  The micro-shimmers are brilliant as the light hits it.  You can see from the shadow above that it looks like a silky powder but when swatched it builds up to perfect opaqueness.

While I was pursuing the interwebz I found this video on Jane Iredale’s youtube channel and thought it would be nice to include it so that you can see the product in action!
For the look I used below I laid down a base of Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Cream Shadow in #13, a light champagne.  I then patted the Gold Dust over it with a flat shader brush.  The base was the perfect cream consistency to allow the shimmers to stick with minimal fall-out.
The eyeshadow is much more shimmery and beautiful than this photo actually shows.
Anyway, wear the colors of the Olympians, whether it be gold or bronze… I did both! ;)  Rose Gold is the next on my wish list!

Senna Cosmetics Medallion Eyeshadow Trio Review and FOTD

Nothing to disclose.
I am an eyeshadow LOOOOVVVVEEERRRR…  That being said, I got the SENNA Cosmetics Medallion Eyeshadow Trio a long time ago and never wore it.  I mean.. months if not over a year ago I got this and it became completely lost in my stash. I was cleaning everything the other night and reorganizing the stash and this was uncovered from the deep dark pit that was one of my makeup drawers.  It was fresh and new and STILL IN IT’S BOX!  Holy…  How had I never touched or applied these eyeshadows before?

As you can see, it is a really warm eyeshadow color palette.  It has a nice shimmery yellow-gold, shimmery green-patina, and a deep chocolatel-y red-toned brown.  These three colors are beautiful.  Such a gorgeous trio.  Great to warm up the eye during the summer, fall, and winter.  As soon as I uncovered it I had to play with it.  The next look is what I came up with!

You can obviously make this eye REALLY strong, smoky, and seductive but I chose to make it a wearable every day look (like I normally do with everything) and I really like it.  I hope you like it too!  I can’t actually find it n their website anymore.  The only thing I can really speak to (since I can’t find it) is the quality of the eyes shadows themselves.  They applied very true to color and actually blended very well.  I had to add a transition color to my crease because I like a matte medium-toned brown and this trio didn’t have one so I improvised with Jane Willow.  Anyway.  LOVE this trio!  I recommend their shadows without a doubt!  5 star rating for sure!

Amarte Natural Finish BB Cream Review, Swatch, and Face Of The Day

PR Sample, Affiliate link.
Amarte Skincare, Natural Finish BB Cream, Light Tint, SPF 36, beauty balm

I recently reviewed a few things from Amarte Skincare, and in doing so I fell in love with the brand.  In case you haven’t heard of the brand or read about them here previously they began in 1994 as a skincare initiative with a Korean Derm clinic.  One of the staff members started creating products to address the needs and wants of their client base.  Over the years they became extremely popular as well as their technology became more sophisticated and expansive.  In 2001 Amarte Co, Ltd. Korea was founded and by 2004 they became a well-known private label supplier in Korea and East Asia.  They eventually moved into western markets in 2006 and their popularity has been increasing every since.

Today I am reviewing the Natural Finish BB Cream!

“Natural Finish™ Korean BB Cream lets you be your own beauty. This sheer, fine pigmented beauty balm provides uniform coverage without caking or flaking. Designed with SPF 36 to protect you while it softens and smooths for a natural look, Natural Finish™ BB Cream forsakes all else for the beauty of you.” – Amarte Skincare

For starters, it has BEAUTIFUL packaging.  The gorgeous pink, white, and gold color scheme appeals to me greatly!  The push down pump offers great control over the flow of the product being dispensed.  I find that one pump is enough to cover my entire face and I sometimes go back for a little more if I am trying to cover up a problem area.

Amarte Skincare, Natural Finish BB Cream, Light Tint, SPF 36, beauty balm, swatch

It has an SPF of 36 which is really important to me.  I live in Florida and spend a lot of time outdoors.  Before you realize what you have done sometimes, you can get sun burnt.  It has happened to me several times, back when I first moved here I didn’t realize just how potent the sun is down here and ended up needed prescription medication for one of my burns.

The BB Cream itself has creamy texture that applies beautifully without showing dry patches or looking cakey.  It has sheer-medium coverage but evens out the skin immediately.  You can see in the pictures below how it transformed my skin.

In the first picture I had nothing on except the Amarte Eyeconic Eye Cream and Amarte Aqua Veil Hydrator.  You can see all of my flaws here.  I have extremely freckled skin as well as some small breakouts but a LOT of redness.  The second photo is after applying one pump of the Amarte Natural Finish BB Cream.  It made an obvious difference with my skin’s appearance.  No more redness (except around my eyes), minimized the opacity of my freckles and really looks quite flawless.  In the third picture I applied a bit more BB Cream to my problem areas. I also added some concealer, powdered my t-zone and applied my eye, lip, and cheek makeup.  Sometimes I am baffled by the drastic change that makeup can make, but this is your proof!  Amazing stuff!

Amarte Skincare, Natural Finish BB Cream, Light Tint, SPF 36, beauty balm, transformation
Amarte Natural Finish BB Cream ($49) is everything you need in one product: sun protection, moisturizer, primer, color corrector, with other added skincare benefits.  I have been using this BB Cream for a couple weeks now and I am very impressed.  The longevity of this product is pretty great too.  It lasts throughout an entire 8+ hour work day for me with little to no touching up.  I do sometimes have to blot my t-zone, but that doesn’t really change with any foundation I use.  I have no fusses, great product!  I give this a 5 star rating for sure!

Holiday Beautiful with Neutrogena

I bought it. Press Sample.
Are you ready for the holidays?  Better yet, are you ready for holiday parties and gift giving?  Getting ready for both can absolutely include Neutrogena this year with products to keep you looking youthful to adding some color to your pout.  These products are not only great for gift giving, but glamming yourself up as well!
Warning, very picture heavy post!  I couldn’t help myself.

A great present to give someone (or yourself) this year is the Neutrogena Microdermabrasion System ($23.99).    The set includes the Microdermabrasion Machine and 12 Rejuvenating Puffs, Attatchment Head, as well as the batteries needed to operate it.  Everything you need in one lovely package.  This system is proven to reduce wrinkles, minimize age spots, refine pore size, and increase firmness.

The puff is pre-dosed with with ultra-fine crystals and mild purifiers, it is textured to exfoliate but not so much that it hurts.  You massage it over your face for 1-2 minutes, whatever you are comfortable with, and then you discard the puff.  You should see more luminous skin after one use, visible reduction in lines and wrinkles in 3 uses, and firmer skin within 12 uses.
“The patented massaging system is effective when it comes to fighting the signs of aging. But its randomized microvibrations make it gentle enough to use frequently. Its combination of ultra-fine crystals, mild-purifiers and massaging micro-vibrations work to deliver refined texture and radiance to your skin in just one use, and firmer, younger-looking skin over time.” – Neutrogena

It fits perfectly into the palm of your hand and has an easy on/off switch on the back.
Another perfect product for any beauty is the Neutrogena Pore Refining Daily Cleanser ($7.49).  Who doesn’t want their pores to be less visible?  This cleanser is great.  It has an alpha and beta hydroxy formula that works on contact to shrink pores and sweep away dead surface skin to give a smoother appearance.  Week after week you should see results, or should I say not see?  :)

My favorite foundation of all time is the Neutrogena Healthy Skin SPF 20 ($12.49).  I have several high end foundations that I like, but like a good black dress I keep coming back to this one.  It gives me exactly what I want: coverage and dewiness without looking oily.  I like my skin to look like skin and I feel like I achieve that with this product.  The shade I always use is 40 Nude but I also have 30 Buff and 50 Soft Beige to share with you today.  I would say that my skin tone is neutral light.  (N20 in MAC terms)!  There are 12 shades to choose from, the darkest being the shade Tan.
Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Sticks ($8.49) are the brand’s version of the chubby stick craze.  It seems like all brands now have their own chubby stick and I am a fan of all of them.  These promise to moisturize your lips on contact while continuing to condition them so they are softer and smoother.  I personally think the pigmentation is quite perfect.  It has some color payoff while also giving a glossy look.  The shades below are Plum Perfect and Juicy Peach.

The Face Chart below was created by celebrity Makeup Artist Amy Oresman and it is named Chic Romance.  I used the products I have here to recreate the look best I could!

I feel 100% Holiday Ready with this beauty arsenal from Neutrogena and I completely recommend everything shown as gifts, stocking stuffers, or a pick-me-up for yourself.  I have been a fan of the brand for years now–I don’t want to go into how many years because that would give away my age soooo much! haha

Studio Gear Cosmetics Holiday Smokey Eye Palette

Press Sample

The holidays are the best time to play up your eyes with a fun, shimmery look.  There are lots of occasions to wear shimmer during the holidays: work parties, get togethers with family, a night out on the town, shopping… you name it.  Studio Gear Cosmetics has created a beautiful palette of shimmery shades that are quite basic in nature, but combined together they are absolutely breathe-taking!  It is called Holiday!

“Be radiant on any occasion with this sultry, shimmery palette of dramatic shades – perfect for creating a classic smoky eye look, with a hint of unexpected golden glimmer. This collection of four complimentary eye shadows with matching blush deliver several day to night options that are both seductive and wearable. With pure color, pigment-rich formulations, you’ll be sure to smolder all night!” – Studio Gear Cosmetics

The palette contains 4 gorgeous eyeshadows and a blush that is to die for!

The tutorial they provide on the inside of the palette is stunning and can be played up or down.  The way it guides you reminds me of a “Choose your adventure…” book!  You can create an eye look that is more everyday or a vavoom look that is smoldering.

There is a white shade that reminds me of sparkling snow.  It is called Frost.
A black shade that is reminiscent of Coal with a name that is likewise.  Funny, it’s the naughtiest shade in the bunch and coal is what naughty boys and girls get on Christmas! ;)
The gold shade included in the palette is called Glimmer.  I believe the inspiration for this shade is drawn from the glimmering lights of the holidays.
The silver shade is called Platinum and reminds be of silver bells.
The blush in the set is called Snowy Glow.  The flush that you get on your cheeks from the cold is the most beautiful cheek color on earth and this does a great job at replicating it.

The pigmentation is amazing and the blendability is perfection.  The texture is not soft, it is rather firm.  It allows you to pick up the product without over-packing your brush and creating a lot of fallout.  In fact, I was quite pleased with the lack of fallout altogether.
The shades combined make one of the most gorgeous looks I have ever seen.  The folks over at Studio Gear Cosmetics knew what they were doing!

With the Studio Gear Cosmetics Holiday palette you can follow the tutorial or do a look of your own.  I personally play up the gold shade a bit more on the center of the lid.  This palette retails for $40 but the SG site has it marked down at this moment for $25.  You can take an additional 10% off this palette, as well as your entire order, with the code SGHOLIDAY.

Paul & Joe: Eye & Cheek Color Set Sugar & Spice

PR Sample.  Affiliate Links.

Paul & Joe Beaute is a brand that has been on the top of my list of awesomeness for quite some time.  It is relatively new to the beauty scene being founded in 2002 but has a runaway cult following already.  I have reviewed an item or two over the past few years and I am more than excited to be sharing with you my review on the Eye & Cheek Color Set in Sugar & Spice.  There are two of these kits that were released in the holiday collection, the other is called Gingerbread.

ich, spicy tones create a sultry feminine look that will have you glowing all season long.
Featuring adorable cats, this collection will make the Holidays even more merry for cat-lovers. Like sweet & spicy gingerbread, the pairing of Sweet x Spicy eye colors creates an impressive contrast.
Includes: Eye Color Duo – Gold & Green – 0.07 oz, Eye Gloss – Sugar White – 0.42 oz, Blusher Stick – Warm Red – 0.1 oz” – Paul & Joe

First off, the box it comes in has the exact pattern of the beautiful bag in the kit.  The design is a sort of plaid/basketweave pattern behind 3 beautiful kittehs!  :)  I love kittehs!  There is a pretty tassel hanging off of one end and the zipper (when closed) hangs on the opposite side which keeps it from tangling together.

Inside the bag are 3 products.  An Eye Gloss, a Blusher Stick, and an Eye Color Duo.

The most adorable thing (and the product for which the brand is most well-known) in the set is the Blusher Stick in Warm Red.  The color is called Warm Red but it honestly looks like a nice, vibrant pinkish-red-coral shade.  It comes in a lipstick-like bullet and has the face of a cat.  Adorable!  I am terrified at the thought of using this because I never want the kitty-cat face to wear away.

For the swatch below I used the bottom of the bullet on the back to keep the blusher stick looking pristine.  The color is absolutely gorgeous.  I did a full on swatch as well as a very blended out look.  This color when applied on the cheeks gives you that perfect winter flush that only the cold weather brings.  That being said there is a healthy dose of coral in the shade so I think it is appropriate year round.
The Eye Color Duo called Gold & Green is GORGEOUS.  The gold side is a warm gold with hint of peach and the green is sort of a light chocolately brown with a duo-chrome green effect.  You see more of the green but it looks like it has a brown base.

The swatches are really self explanatory.  You can see in the swatch on the right the chocolatey-brown-base look I was speaking of in the green shade.  Both shades are perfectly pigmented and transfer beautifully.  It is soft but not so soft that it falls to pieces.  I don’t experience any fall out with these eyeshadows…  Honestly I have nothing, NOT ONE THING, negative that I can say about it.  I adore the colors and found that together they are even more beautiful than they are on their own.

The Eye Gloss in Sugar White is a gorgeous cream eyeshadow that is a pearly off-white shade.  The packaging is really nice, it has a tiny hole in the tip which allows easy flow of product without allowing too much to come out at once.  The kitty is a nice touch as well!

On the left you can see that when built up you will get a very opaque white pearl but it can also be sheered out to leave an ethereal look to the eye.  I like to use this as an inner corner eye highlight or even applied very lightly as a face highlight (i.e. down the nose or on the cheek bone).  The shade is really nice for the winter months because it has that icy look.

The next few pictures are a look I created with this kit.  I went for a smoky eye and barely-there blush (kind of because I don’t want to use the beautiful cat up but also because I like to go light on blush when I do a heavy eye).
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Twilight as a base
Paul & Joe Eye Color Duo (green shade for the lid and the gold shade to blend it out)
Paul and Joe Eye Gloss as inner corner highlight
em michelle phan Defining Brow Liner on brows
RIMMEL ScandalEyes eyeliner in Onyx on waterline
LISI Liquid Liner for the wing (that is barely visible in these photos)
Jordana Best Lash Extreme mascara
Paul & Joe Blusher Stick in Warm Red (very lightly applied and well blended)
IT Cosmetics CC Cream
Hourglass Ambient Powder in Dim Light
Body Drench Lip Drench balm in Eucalyptus

The next couple pictures are of me and my daughter.  I never post her pictures here and we had fun with our little photo shoot so I couldn’t resist.  The first picture I had her giggling.  You can see her tooth peeking out from behind her bottom lip a little.

The last picture has me laughing so hard I am in stitches.  I look thrilled while she looks MISERABLE!  HAHAHAHA  Poor thing, I swear she enjoys our photoshoots but she wasn’t having it at that particular moment.

The Paul & Joe Eye & Cheek Color Set in Sugar & Spice retails for $65 which is actually a pretty terrific value if you add all the pieces up individually.  The bag is nice and roomy and the products are of the highest quality.  I love the look I created with this set.  You can find this kit on Paul & Joe’s website or on Dermstore.

Smokey Eye Friday featuring Stila

Hello everyone!  I am doing another Smokey Eye Friday!  I encourage all of you out there with blogs to participate too!  I typically wear a smokey eye 3-4 times a week and I love seeing what people come up with in their own looks.

I was inspired by the purples included in the Stila Masterpiece Series Eye and Cheek palettes.  The 2nd palette is called “The Impressionist Palette” and it is the one that has the purple hues. It is gorgeous and I encourage you to check out the swatches from the post I linked.

Please excuse the exhausted gaze, I have been working crazy hours and spending my “off time” going a million miles an hour like every other mommy!  My hat is off to everyone that works a full time job and is a parent.  I know first-hand how hard it is and I look at others and think, “How do you do it and make it look easy?” haha  Happy Smokey Eye Friday!

Smoky Eye Friday: Shimmer Smoke

Affiliate Link.
A smoky eye doesn’t always have to be a dark, heavy eye look.  You can absolutely do a lighter, more shimmery eye for an everyday smoky eye.  In fact, this is a look that I do gravitate towards on a daily basis.  I like shimmer and reflection on my lids and doing more matte colors throughout the crease and browbone.  I have monolids so I don’t really have a natural crease to emphasis so I have to fake it.  I always do a slightly darker color where the crease should be and then blend it out with a lighter shade, creating the effect of a natural crease.  I hope you enjoy this look.

I used a lot of brownish-purple taupes.  Taupes are the loves of my life.

I hope you love the look I created.  Very doable for anyone.

Smoky Eye Friday: Grey Smoke

Smoky eyes are one of my all-time favorite looks.  Honestly… I always set out to do something subtle and before you know it I end up at a smoky eye.  They are just fun, sexy, and (believe it or not) fairly easy.

For this look I was determined to use my MAC eyeshadows.  It has been months since I really cracked open my MAC eyeshadow palette and I really wanted to use some ole trusty favorites.

I also wanted to do a brighter lipstick with a smoky eye.  I ALWAYS gravitate towards nudes but I wanted to do a look that was a bit more fun and exciting.  I think these lips paired with the eye look perfectly.

So anyway, I know you are all probably wondering which products I used.
IT Cosmetics bronzer
No7 Poppy Queen Number Three Glamour Lipstick
MAC Mystery to blend out Copperplate
Soap n Glory tan/nude eyeshadow to blend out Mystery
MAC Handwritten to deepen the outer-v and crease
MAC Nylon on inner corners and brow bone (blended to high heaven to get rid of super-shimmer)
MAC Mystery on brows
I created this look while experimenting.  For whatever reason I never thought to pair greys and browns together like I did in this look.  I would typically pair greys with black.  Because I am taupe-obsessed, I am surprised I never thought about it before…  They pair perfectly and I am positive this will be a go-to look for me in the future.
I hope you like the look I came up with and I encourage you to start making Friday’s your go-to Smoky Eye Day.  I am participating in a link up with this post and you will be able to see lots of lovely eye looks by some fabulous bloggers.  I am going to make a real effort to participate every Friday, but I know I will skip it from time to time.
