I find myself telling my son, “Brush your teeth” way too often. Dental care is super important and I try and stress that to my family. We all LOVE to eat but sometimes need to be reminded that if we don’t take care of our teeth our favorite foods will be less enjoyable in the future. Last year more than 150 million Americans did not visit the dentist. Some struggled to find care when they needed it while others just didn’t make it a priority.
Aspen Dental and NASCAR driver Danica Patrick are taking the term “fast food” to a whole new level. Watch while she serves up some rather unconventional creations in the Easy Eats food truck in Charlotte. She knows the importance of good dental care and is showing them exactly the kinds of food they will be enjoying in the future if they don’t take care of their teeth. A Taste of the Future, if you will.
I decided to take a page out of her book and use some visual aid in my approach to get through to my son. It was so eye opening that I am actually happy to share it with you today. So behold, an Empanada Smoothie.
Last night for dinner I made empanadas and an arugula salad. There was one empanada left over from dinner so I decided it was the perfect specimen to use in my little experiment.
I combined the empanada and half a cup of tea in a blender a poured it into a pretty glass and handed it to my son. He looked at me like I had lost my marbles and I explained to him that this will be what his meals looked like if he didn’t brush his teeth and he immediately went downstairs to brush his teeth without me even having to ask. Smart kid.
Thankfully, this taste of the future can be avoided. Aspen Dental is one of the largest and fastest-growing networks of dental care providers in the U.S., providing millions of Americans with access to quality, affordable dental care to help keep their mouths on track. Tell me in the comments below: What is your favorite food? Would you still enjoy eating it if it was put into a blender?
