The Lipstick League – week of 11.3.14
Question of the Week: Do you use face primer? If so, what are some of your favorites?
A lot of people are confused about primers and what they do. Most people think that all primers are supposed to do the same thing, but there are actually several different types of primers and all perform a different job. Some deter oil production, some smooth the skin, some create a luminous glow, and some help your makeup last longer. All that being said, I don’t always wear primers but when I do I go for ones that make my skin smoother or more luminous.
I can’t say that I have any favorites, but there are a few that I do keep in my arsenal. I switch it up depending on my mood and the look I am trying to achieve.
Supergoop! CC Cream is my good all around primer. It has a high SPF and it really seems to help me with with oil control. I don’t think it intentionally helps with oil control, but that is what I find. My makeup doesn’t break down when I have this on as a primer.
IT Cosmetics Feel The Moment is an anti-aging primer and serum in one. It is super thin and feels great on the skin. I actually love serums and for the most part that is what I use under my foundation. This one actually is scented with lavender so there is a little aroma therapy added in there.
Shu Uemura Stage Performer Instant Glow is probably the one I have been using for the longest amount of time. It is a white cream with little bitty color beads in it. Once you rub it into your face you not only get the glow they mention, but it also “matches your skin color”. I put that in quotations because it just adds a hint of color but no actual coverage.
Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly is a new one for me. It actually has a pink iridescence that creates a BEAUTIFUL effect under foundation. The luminosity you get from this primer is amazing. I really have no more words to describe it.
Boscia BB Cream Bronze leaves a pretty bronzy glow. This one is ideal for the summer, but I like having a bronzy gold glow during the holidays too. I don’t know why, but I always associate Christmas with gold accents.
Tony Moly Luminous Goddess Aura Beam is new to me as well. It is a gel cream that has micro shimmers. Once rubbed in the shimmer dissipates but you are left with a pretty luminosity.
Here are my swatches of them L to R: Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly, Boscia BB Cream Bronze, Tony Moly Luminous Goddess Aura Beam, Supergoop! CC Cream, It Cosmetics Feel The Moment, Shu Uemura Instant Glow.
