In my second installment of OcTAUPEr 2014 I am showing you The Best Individual TAUPE Eyeshadows. These are the best in my collection. The ones that I reach for over and over again. Some are on the high end side and a few are VERY affordable. So let us get right into it, shall we?
Jane Cosmetics Polished Pewter was originally reviewed and swatched these in my Jane Cosmetics post. It is a beautiful cream eyeshadow that isn’t drying and allows for plenty of blend time. I like it on its own or as a base for another shadow. Can be found at Ulta.
Rouge Bunny Rouge Caress of Mink is a gorgeous pigment that is a medium taupe brown with pewter & plum highlights. I also reviewed this previously as well.
NARS Cosmetics Iraklion is a smoky rose quartz. It is a chubby cream eyeshadow stick. It makes it super easy to apply. It is so easy to apply right to the lid. The shade is subtle, yet complex enough to be one of those one shade eye colors. This was originally reviewed in my NARS Summer 2014 review. It can be found at Sephora.
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Twilight is another amazing cream shadow stick. It is in a gorgeous deep smoky pewter taupe. Caviar Sticks are known for their phenomenal staying power. In fact, every time I do swatches of this shade I have to wash my arm like 5 times just to get this shade off. LONG LASTING. Again, it has been reviewed previously in my Laura Mercier White Magic Collection. Can be found at Nordstrom.
Cargo Cosmetics Yukon is a high shine taupe with a semi-metallic finish. It is soft and creamy and it lasts for ages on your eyelid. I reviewed this shade before in my Taupe-Tastic Tuesday series! (pssstt… ask me if you want me to continue that). Can be found on Amazon.
L’Oreal Cosmetics Infallible Eyeshadow in Bronzed Taupe is one of my all time favorite drugstore eyeshadows. I reviewed them back when they first started hitting the market. They are these packed loose eyeshadows that are so smooth and creamy and are HIGHLY metallic. I am kind of in love with them. Can be found on drugstore.com.
Chanel Safari was my very first eyeshadow from Chanel. It definitely doesn’t disappoint either. It is less shiny and metallic than others I own of this particular color family. However, that makes it PERFECT for any occasion. I really like using this as an all over wash of color. I did a few posts a while back with Chanel Safari and Taupe Grise (the next one) so definitely check them out. Can be found at Nordstrom.
Chanel Taupe Grise is another pewtery-plummy taupe. It, like Chanel Safari is much less shimmery than the rest of my selection. That makes it perfect for adding depth to the eye. I love deepening the outer corners of the eye and adding a touch to the crease. Can be found at Nordstrom.
And now for the selection of shades that you cannot buy any longer unless you get seriously lucky on eBay or a blogsale of some kind. I WARN YOU. Go no further if you do not want to be tempted.
Shu Uemura ME 850 is a shade that was discontinued even when I got my hands on it. I think I bought it from eBay from a reputable seller, so definitely look at feedback before jumping in on purchasing cosmetics from eBay. Anyway, going back to the current topic… They now make new versions of this shade. I actually compared and contrasted ME850 and ME856 in this post. And please excuse the typo in the swatches below. I accidentally call ME850 the other shade, ME856.
MAC Cosmetics Sweet Sienna Pigment is another long discontinued shade. I am gaga over this color and I think that it is so sad that they don’t make it anymore. It is indeed gorgeous. I have actually pressed this pigment several times and I still have so much product left. Amazing how much they used to put in the old packaging.
MAC Cosmetics Coco Pigment is one of those unicorns that is IMPOSSIBLE to find. I bought it from a very awesome MakeupAlley friend at cost. WHAT! COST! That is insane. I have actually seen this particular eyeshadow go for upwards of $100 on eBay. But it is amazing, so you can see why. I discuss how amazing MAC Coco pigment is before, so go read that!
So here are all of these shadows swatched side by side. Absolutely amazing shades. I didn’t want to wash my arm, but had to.
So, I hope you are as obsessed with Taupe as I am, because it is indeed the best shade int he world! Tell me in the comments below what shade you consider to be the best individual taupe eyeshadow.
