Yoplait vs Chobani Taste-Off

This #TasteOff was sponsored by Yoplait.  All results are the honest opinion of myself and my family.

Yoplait vs Chobani

I am a yogurt fan from way back but had some bad experiences with greek yogurt when the trend was exploding at the grocery stores a couple years ago.  Before I was pregnant with my daughter I went to a nutritionist, she told me I should be incorporating greek yogurts into my diet and I tried and tried but never found one I liked.  When I got the opportunity to do this taste-off between two of the more well-known yogurt brands in the business I gladly accepted.  In a national taste test, Yoplait Greek 100 Strawberry yogurt beat Chobani Simply 100 Strawberry.  I drug my entire family into this taste test and they ended up having fun, it is always good to create a good family-time excitement!  Are you ready for the results?

For the record, each of these yogurts ran me $1 a cup at my local Walmart so they are the same in price.  They both contain 100 calories and are both gluten free.  The differences are all in the appearance, taste, and consistency.  Consistency is a BIG FACTOR for both myself and my husband, if something is wrong with the consistency then there is no way we can eat it REGARDLESS of appearance and flavor.

yoplait chobani

Appearance is quite different.  Yoplait is pretty and pink and you can see more of the strawberry pieces.  The consistency is thinner and smoother.  Chobani really white in color and appears very thick and creamy; there are strawberry pieces visible but nowhere near as many as the other.

My husband was the first to try Yoplait.  After he tasted it he just nodded and said it was good and tasted like what he expected a good yogurt to taste like.  I tasted it and immediately thought it was sweet delicious; I would have never guessed it was greek yogurt.  My son tasted it and said it was good.  My daughter tasted it and of course opened her mouth open wide and wanted more… typical baby stuff!

When we moved on to Chobani we went in the same order.  My husband ate a spoonful and squinched his nose up.  I was next to taste it and I think it tasted very bitter.  It did taste like strawberry but the bitterness overpowered it as a whole; it was smooth and creamy as I thought it would be from it’s appearance.  My son tasted it and decided it was terrible.  Raegan was the last to try and she AGAIN held her mouth open wanting more… I mean come on… she eats baby food!

hmm….we’re definitely going to have to try the yoplait now. We usually go with chobani or oikos, bt my son is not a fan of greek yogrt anyway. Maybe he’ll enjoy these! Thanks!

  • saratrojaniello

Ahw! I want to taste it! :(

  • erikatheicyone

Ah, Yoplait wouldn’t appreciate my input. I am a hardcore Greek yoghurt lover. I like it thick, rich and tart with just a hint of sweetness around the edges. My all time favorite is Fage. Between Yoplait and Chobani, Chobani would win, hands down. :)

  • FabZilla_Kath

Yogurt in general sends me to bathroom pronto, sad I know.

I need to try the Yoplait one because I do like the chobani… but I also mix my granola in. ;)

I love yoghurts, but I haven´t tried Yoplait products, yet, because I haven´t seen them anywhere here in Estonia so far.

What a fun taste test! I have only tried the chocolate/raspberry Yoplait greek yogurt. It’s not bad. The regular Yoplait light is one of our favorites. I really like the Fage Greek yogurt, too.

  • Amber

I wish I could do yogurt, but I can’t do dairy. The coconut milk and soy versions aren’t so great! I’m curious about the 100 calorie versions you tested. Do either of them have artificial sugar? Thank you for the honest review!

    MMMM..I love both of them!

  • http://yourclosetdiva.blogspot.in Naomi Ganzu

I always wished to take either chobani or yoplait. Unfortunately none of them ship to India

My favorite yogurt is Fage. I’ve had both of these, and neither of them taste good to me.

  • http://www.blushingnoir.com/ Brooke @ Blushing Noir

I’ll have to try it! I always get the regular Yoplait light. I’ve tried one greek yogurt (I forget the brand) but I hated it. Maybe Yoplait will be a better choice for me!

  • Allison @neversaydiebeauty

I will have to give Yoplait another try. I have always stayed away from them because of too many chemicals but hopefully they have reformulated since the last time. I like Fage best and Chobani is second choice, but maybe Yoplait is worth another try.

I will totally have to try the Yoplait. I am a Chobani fan usually, but if this taste better than I need to grab some ASAP. And 100 calories is even better. great post!

  • Noelle

I usually eat Chobani so this is really interesting. Sometimes the bitter taste totally gets me and I’d rather eat something else. I’ll have to try out Yoplait!

  • http://www.painted-ladies.com/ Sheila Arkee

I’ll have to pick this up!

  • Kimmi @ The Plastic Diaries

  • Pammy Blogs Beauty

I am so hungry for yogurt now! I have not tried the Yoplait yet…but now I want to!

  • http://www.portraitofmai.com/ Mai

If someone is supposed to be strawberry, it better be pink! That Chobani yogurt looks a bit pallid for my taste (and it seems for everyone else too!)

  • Anastasia

Yum! I really like yogurts, hubs and I eat them every day :) I also prefer Yoplait to Chobani, even though Chobani is supposed to be fancier.

  • http://www.slashedbeauty.com/ Miranda Mendoza

I’ve tried both and I don’t mind chobani but I definitely like the appearance of Yoplait more.. it’s a psychological thing!

  • Sania Akbar

    yummy …. <3

  • Betzy Carmona

They look so yummy ! & the are perfect for my ongoing diet

  • http://www.oliveandivyblog.com/ Chelsea

  • Carly Anderson

I really need to try this, it looks delicious!

  • TinaBowling

I really like greek yogurt but haven’t tried the Yoplait yet!

  • http://www.citizensofbeauty.com/ Citizens of Beauty

I agree that Yoplait is probably better. But my kids seriously love the chobani. Weird, I know.

  • http://www.cosmetically-challenged.com Melody Robinson Wright

One look at Chobani’s sugar content and you’ll always choose Yoplait lol.

  • myCosmeticBag

there’s something about greek yogurt that i can’t get on board with

  • veronicalee

    I am a die-hard Yoplait girl!

  • kSquaredGlamour

i use to ove yoplait but had to stop eating dairy :/

  • Ange

Proof that kids will eat anything… That Chobani was SO gross!

  • Paige T.

We’re a yoplait family! I’m not a fan of chobani

  • angelica

I love yogurt, I use it in smoothies & it has replaced most of my other dressings like sour cream & mayo in most of my recipes. I would love to try some of those other flavors to eat as a snack.

  • Randi C

My husband and I did the taste test too, and came up with the same answer. We love the Yoplait black cherry and mango flavors, and now enjoy it instead of ice cream (trying to stay healthy). The sugar count is low as well, it’s a good treat!
