Hot Pots from Coastal Scents

A friend of mine, whom I love, sent me a few Hot Pots from Coastal Scents.  I have never owned these before and at first glance I was pretty impressed.  The shades I received are all very taupe-ish and therefore very "me"!  The first 3 pictures are in the same order...

The Hot Pots swatches came out very nice.  The only one that isn't very pigmented is S27.  I had to go over it and over it several times to build it up to this color.  And M20 is almost my skin color so it wasn't showing up well, but I assure you that it is pigmented.

While I was looking at them in the pans they were calling out to me as looking like other things.... First up is the BECCA Enigma palette...

Granted these shades aren't IDENTICAL to the palette but from the colors in the pans it was looking promising...  But as you can see below not a real match.... the BECCA Enigma trio is on the left and the Hot Pots in M20, S27, and S05 on the right.  FAIL.

Looking at S28 and S30 I started getting an inkling that they could look like Twinks or Beauty Marked.... and just for giggles I put S05 down beside Style Snob just to see if it were possible... (it definitely wasn't)

Swatches in order from L to R: MAC Twinks, MAC Beauty Marked, Hot Pot S30, and Hot Pot S28

The MAC eyeshadows compared to the Hot Pots just seem sort of.... lacking... the Hot Pots swatched very velvety and smooth while the MAC eyeshadows looked sort of unpigmented and chalky...  Twinks was fairly nice but Beauty Marked just wasn't doing anything for me...  It never usually does but I tried...

It was starting to become clear to me that they weren't matching anything from MAC that I own so I decided to swatch MAC Satin Taupe beside Hot Pot S05...

Both are nice and taupey, and smooth and velvety... but they aren't similar.... The purple undertones in Satin Taupe made the orange undertones in Hot Pot S05 stand out even more...

I was looking hard at the M20 shade and realized it resembled Rock & Republic Femme.  In the pan they are very similar!!!

Swatched on my underarm the peachy undertones of Femme stood out where M20 is a true matte pale pink.

Even heavily deposited finger tip swatches show up as Femme (on left) looking more peach-toned.

I then got to my Chanel Mystic Eyes quad.  I was starting to think there was hope here....

Totally off... the swatches of the Hot Pots in S05, S30 and M20 (on left) look all way to yellow/warm toned and the Mystic Eyes quad looked pink/cool toned.

So my conclusion of these shadows is that they are pretty unique.... I couldn't find hardly anything that looked similar to them.  They are also quite pigmented (other than S27) and blend out smooth.  These 6 Hot Pots are all I own and all I have ever tried from the line so my opinion are based solely on what you see here.  That being said I can say that I am a fan.

  7. Believe it or not these are my first hot pots shades.... I had all of the premade palettes (88 palettes) but never used them so got rid of them... I think these are way better quality.
