Oc-TAUPE-r Ramble

Hello all!  How was your weekend?  Mine was great!  It had it’s ups and downs of course, but overall it was great!  I spent Saturday indoors sick so that was the down part but my husband attended the Georgia/Florida college football game and his team won (Georgia), so that was great!
I also had a mini meet-up with a fellow makeup enthusiast/blogger!  I had lunch and shopped with the beautiful Chrissa from Eyes Catch Fire!  She had a blog prior to Eyes Catch Fire but she decided to start a new one after the birth of her daughter!  I had a blast and we played with sooo many goodies!  It is so refreshing and exciting to look at makeup with someone who feels as strongly about it as you do!  I advise any of you makeup addicts that usually shop alone to find a friend that likes to talk about makeup and bring them along!  :)
Here is a picture of my baby haul of the day!  Most of the things that I actually wanted are on Sephora.com as well and I am planning on taking advantage of the 20% off coupon before that is over!  Unfortunately the few things that I want are out of stock… Story of my life…. UGH!!!
ANYWAY! I digress…  In the picture I have Cargo Yukon eyeshadow, Essence Creamy Nude (50) lipstick, and an Essence lipliner in soft rose (01).
When I got home from shopping and dining my son was ready to carve a pumpkin!  (I know that the day before Halloween is late to be carving a pumpkin, but There was just no time this week and anything earlier than that is too early in my experience…)  Here are the photos of our pumpkin.  In case you are wondering what the candle inside him is… it is a mini Bath and Body Works Leaves candle!  My favorite scent HANDS DOWN by them…

Without the lights on…

With the lights on…
I also did a video recently on my favorite Taupe eyeshadows!  If you would like I encourage you to check it out!
Thank you for reading!  If you haven’t checked out Chrissa’s blog (Eyes Catch Fire which is linked above) please do!!!  She doesn’t have very many posts up yet but what she does have is great!

Hello beauties!!! I am interrupting your regularly scheduled beauty post to show you pictures from my family’s trip to the local Zoo’s Halloween event. It is called Spooktacular and my son had such a good time. :) (He was the ghost mask from Scream.).
I don’t know what I expected from our experience, because it was our first time attending, but I enjoyed it. I wish that the animals could have been seen or been a part of it in some way, buy I understand. They have to rest some time.
Anyway… I am going to take you on a small journey through my Instagram pictures! :D  Hope you enjoy!
Me and T at the gates!  He was so excited… he was ready to scare people and get some candy!!

I didn’t dress up as anything but because I have a flare for the dramatics I improvised with a glow stick?  I will call it a “Neon Angel”, how about that?

He does look pretty spooky, wouldn’t you say?

He was TOTALLY scaring his dad! hahahaha  I love it!

I wish I would have gotten a better angle of the pumpkins.  There were HUNDREDS of pumpkins up and down the sides of the walk ways.

Some had colored lights inside of them to give off a truly eye-pleasing effect.

There are some elephant statues that looked really cool in the dark.  I don’t know how well you can make them out here but I loved them!

Gorgeous fountain in the middle of the dining area at the zoo, which was completely transformed into a dance floor with roaming animals and other characters!

These were some of those “other characters”!

And ONLY IN FLORIDA can you find an alligator jump house…

Thanks for spending a moment to recap my evening in the Zoo!  It was honestly a lot of fun!

Fyrinnae Swatches Part 2

So, the first swatches of Fyrinnae eyeshadows that I did were ones that I had received as gifts/swaps/etc… This is my very first order that I placed with them and I picked all the shades because I truly wanted them!  Most of you are probably suspecting that the entire order will be taupes… Are you right?? Or will you be completely wrong?
First off… LOOK AT THE PAPER THEY WRAPPED IT IN!!!  How did they know that I am in love with Skulls and Crossbones!  Seriously!  I have a Bath and Body Works Scentportable in my truck that is in the shape of a skull, I dress my son in skulls (he loves them too) and my favorite new nail polish is OPI Skull & Glossbones.  It may or may not be going into my monthly favorites post! :X

Top Row L to R: Te Amo, Beholder, Sahmain Spirits
Bottom Row L to R:  Koala, Rapunzel Had Exensions, Damn Paladins
So, if you were one of the majority of the people that guessed I got all taupes from Fyrinnae you were wrong.  :)  It was mostly taupes and one pretty goldish-peachy-awesomefulness color. (That was me coining a word–got it?  Start using it!  Make a hash tag out of it!! #awesomefulness!)  They even picked a gorgeous free sample to send me… I am starting to think that there won’t be a color that I don’t like though, so it isn’t really fair to call them awesome for picking a fabulous color… or is it?

I CAN NOT get over the amount of eyeshadow that you get for ordering the sample size.  Hello Fyrinnae peeps, you RAWK!  And the colors are just gorgeous and very very very unique.  Who knew?

The swatches are to die for aren’t they?  I took about 15 pictures of these shades but there isn’t a camera on the planet that can capture the #awesomefulness (See, I used it again!) of these brilliant loose powder eyeshadows.
The one thing I didn’t do that I definitely should have was purchase Pixie Epoxy.  Pixie Epoxy is their primer, which is technically more like a glitter glue to help the achieve the full dimensional complexity of their eyeshadows.  Sometimes I am a big goof…
So, now that I have 14 Fyrinnae eyeshadows to call my own and actually have placed an order myself with the company, I can say that I haven’t had any horrible experiences like others have with excessively long ship times. (which seems to be a fluke–I ordered on a Thursday and received my order on the next Wednesday!)
Price:  They vary for certain ranges in their brand.  All of the ones that I own are from their regular line, and the sample sizes are $2.00.
My Newest Addiction Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ (5 out of 5)
Tell me, have you tried Fyrinnae before?  If so, what shades do you highly recommend.  I want more!  >:o)

Wacky Wednesday: Loose Powders

OK! So… I am a certified-card-holding-taupe-haux from WAYYYY back…. I don’t know what is wrong with me recently.  I have been wanting nothing but bright lips and pinks and purples and sparkles and *MUSIC STOPS* LOOSE POWDER BLUSHES AND EYESHADOWS???? WHAT?  Yes, it is true… I am changing.  (Granted, it is probably only temporary!) Anyway…  I am having fun at the moment…
My camera wasn’t cooperating today but these pictures are the best ones I managed to capture… I hope that you can see all the colors… It was a very pink and purple look in real life.
First up.. Instagram! :)

And of course another Instagram picture :D

Shaping the Eyes

I was searching Google for some eye look inspiration recently and stumbled upon this lil’ guy.  I get asked so many times about how to apply eye shadow on different eye shapes and if I could do a tutorial on it.  I would love to be able to do a video on the different eye shapes, the only problem is that would be pretty difficult because my eyes are only shaped one way…
I do find this chart helpful but I want to point out that this is not a set of rules for one to follow when shading and contouring the eye.  This is more of a guideline.  Wide set eyes want to draw their eyes in. Close set eyes want to pull their eyes out.  Prominent lids want to shade their eyes to make them look less prominent… etc…  I rotate between many of these looks on a regular basis.
This picture shows a lot of shading and contouring methods that I am finding very helpful and I hope that you find this post helpful too.  If you have any questions just let me know in the comments below.  :)

Hot Pots from Coastal Scents

A friend of mine, whom I love, sent me a few Hot Pots from Coastal Scents.  I have never owned these before and at first glance I was pretty impressed.  The shades I received are all very taupe-ish and therefore very “me”!  The first 3 pictures are in the same order…

The Hot Pots swatches came out very nice.  The only one that isn’t very pigmented is S27.  I had to go over it and over it several times to build it up to this color.  And M20 is almost my skin color so it wasn’t showing up well, but I assure you that it is pigmented.

While I was looking at them in the pans they were calling out to me as looking like other things…. First up is the BECCA Enigma palette…

Granted these shades aren’t IDENTICAL to the palette but from the colors in the pans it was looking promising…  But as you can see below not a real match…. the BECCA Enigma trio is on the left and the Hot Pots in M20, S27, and S05 on the right.  FAIL.

Looking at S28 and S30 I started getting an inkling that they could look like Twinks or Beauty Marked…. and just for giggles I put S05 down beside Style Snob just to see if it were possible… (it definitely wasn’t)

Swatches in order from L to R: MAC Twinks, MAC Beauty Marked, Hot Pot S30, and Hot Pot S28
The MAC eyeshadows compared to the Hot Pots just seem sort of…. lacking… the Hot Pots swatched very velvety and smooth while the MAC eyeshadows looked sort of unpigmented and chalky…  Twinks was fairly nice but Beauty Marked just wasn’t doing anything for me…  It never usually does but I tried…

It was starting to become clear to me that they weren’t matching anything from MAC that I own so I decided to swatch MAC Satin Taupe beside Hot Pot S05…

Both are nice and taupey, and smooth and velvety… but they aren’t similar…. The purple undertones in Satin Taupe made the orange undertones in Hot Pot S05 stand out even more…

I was looking hard at the M20 shade and realized it resembled Rock & Republic Femme.  In the pan they are very similar!!!

Swatched on my underarm the peachy undertones of Femme stood out where M20 is a true matte pale pink.

Even heavily deposited finger tip swatches show up as Femme (on left) looking more peach-toned.

I then got to my Chanel Mystic Eyes quad.  I was starting to think there was hope here….

Totally off… the swatches of the Hot Pots in S05, S30 and M20 (on left) look all way to yellow/warm toned and the Mystic Eyes quad looked pink/cool toned.

So my conclusion of these shadows is that they are pretty unique…. I couldn’t find hardly anything that looked similar to them.  They are also quite pigmented (other than S27) and blend out smooth.  These 6 Hot Pots are all I own and all I have ever tried from the line so my opinion are based solely on what you see here.  That being said I can say that I am a fan.

FOTD: Museum Bronzed Lollipop

Hello all!  As you know, I recently got my hands on the Revlon Lip Butters and I couldn’t wait to wear them immediately.  I was challenged to use MAC Museum Bronze pigment by a friend of mine (which I have had a sample of for 2 years or more and never used) so I did and decided to pair it with Lollipop on the lips.  I am happy with the results and I decided to take some photos and share it with my readers!
This first picture was before I had done my hair so it is a little messy!  I like the way it looks in this picture but if you would have seen the back you would have thought I was a wild woman! :D  I think I was looking at the Lip Butters on my counter as I was snapping this pic… I am in love with them!!!

Don’t know what I was thinking about in this picture but it seems that it was interesting!
And this is just a shot of the lips.  I have a freckle on my lip and as you can see, this Lip Butter is sheer enough so that you can see it but also gives off a REALLY nice layer of pigmentation!  I am thoroughly impressed with these!

AWESOME NEW PRODUCT ALERT: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters

I wanted to do a post today about some products that just hit the market from Revlon.  They are the Lip Butters.   They are pigmented lip balms named after sweet treats.
Revlon has really outdone themselves!  These lip products are some of the nicest I have ever laid my eyes/hands/lips on. They are creamy, moisturizing, pigmented and they leave a stain behind on your lips.  It is everything that I hope for from a high end brand.  Revlon has truly come out with an exceptional product.  In my opinion, they remind me of a high end lipstick.  Something like Chanel Rouge Coco Shines or Chantecaille Lip Chics…

They are formulated with jojoba seed oil, shea butter, mango butter and coconut oil.  With winter just around the corner and bold lips being a strong trend in the colder months, I would say that Revlon really released these at the perfect time.
L to R: Raspberry Pie, Candy Apple, Lollipop

I love that the packaging resembles the color of the actual product inside.  The top of the tubes are see through and I love the quilted look of the packaging.

LOOK at the pigmentation.  That is crazy.  Sorry that the swatches are a little sloppy but I was so excited to swatch them that I may have gotten a little out of hand! ;)

These Lip Butters have been hard to find for many people, but as soon as you see them I URGE you to pick them up immediately.  I also want to mention that these have no scent nor taste… That is something that I am happy about because sometimes drugstore lip products have plastic smells or get the scents wrong all together.  Job well done, Revlon!
